After being recruited by an anarchist known as "Mr. Robot", Alderson becomes part of a team known as "fsociety" with a mission to take down one of the largest corporations in the world.

After enjoying huge success in the United States, this Friday evening Mr Robot will finally get its Canadian premiere on Showcase. And, in line with the U.S. strategy, Canadian geeks have already been given the opportunity to have an advance sneak preview of the pilot episode on Showcase.ca and ETCanada.com.

However, those attempting to use Google to find the pilot won't be able to do so directly. Quite unbelievably, NBCUniversal in the United States have reported Showcase to Google, claiming that the copy of the pilot on the broadcaster's website is illegal.

Looks like propaganda and lies from the thieves. It would seem more
likely that the special *pre-release* viewing of the pilot was only
available for a limited time *before* the series debuted in Canada:

Nope, these corps use automated takedown generators which flag anything
matching its keyword searches and spit out a DMCA notice without regard
to whether it's actually infringing.

Warner Bros. has sent takedowns to YouTube over its *own* content on
more than one occasion.

Not to mention all the innocent third parties that get swept up in the
wake of all this bullshit and end up with their perfectly legitimate
works taken down.

I still love the idea that the automated systems took down the short
film that the movie "Pixels" was based on because it used the name
Pixels. Now keep in mind the studio licensed the idea from the makers
of the short film so that they could make their motion picture. If
that doesn't show how the DMCA system is being abused then nothing
will.

Precisely. But according to Obveeus, they're all just thieves and
deserve what they get.

Does not apply to this case. Showcase taking down their website preview
the day before it ran was scheduled from the start.

Yep...and anyone that was being honest would not try to claim
otherwise...even snipping out the proof that he was lying to help
further his cause.

If a company chooses to take down their OWN preview on a particular
day no problem. (1)

If they use the DMCA mechanism to do it well hell yes that's a
problem.

(1) There's a famous story on the University of British Columbia
campus dealing with an event about 15 years ago where the students
arrived on campus during frosh week and discovered a brand new statue
on campus in a central location. About 3 weeks later with great
fanfare and during the lunch period a group of engineering students
arrived at the statue with sledgehammers and demolished the thing. The
student uproar was intense about "philistinism" "vandalism" and stuff
like that. After another two weeks the Engineering Student Union
released photographs to the student paper showing that they themselves
had built the statue and showed it was neither particularly well
executed nor made from materials likely to last long in the
university's climate and that the whole affair had been a publicity
stunt...

I can see people being PO'd if the takedown date was unknown but if
people know I can see no valid complaint.

For instance there are all kinds of Game of Thrones preview promos
still on Youtube and season 5 of the show was last April. They're
still fun to watch - but then that show is full of "WTH moments"
