From the new season of 'True Detective' to the TV adaptation of
'Scream,' get the details on all the hot shows hitting the small
screen this summer.

<Most of these shows I never heard of and will only sample based on
forthcoming reviews however I am going to watch/ record 'Hannibal'
'Masters of Sex' and 'True Detective' (I dumped 'Orange Is the New
Black' during the middle of last season)>

Astronaut Wives Club just for Yvonne.

Maybe sample Mr. Robot

Sharknado 3! We know it will be better than:

Pretty Little Liars is jumping forward in time 4 years??? Hopefully
Ezra died in prison 3 years earlier. So Troian will only be playing 8
years younger than she really is, Shay 6, Ashley and Lucy 4, and Sasha
will be playing 3 years OLDER than she really is!

Sasha

There was a short lived TV show about young lawyers. One of actresses was only 21, playing a 25 y/o laywer. FWIW, William Schallert guest-starred, playing an eldery man they wanted to squeeze out of the firm.

Yeah, I was surprised to read that. That, in and of itself, is enough to
restore some of my interest in the show - I was really worried that they
were going to drag the last few weeks of high school over *two* more
seasons!! :o

That seems a good move although they aren't dragging me back into the
mess that it is. At least the actresses can have babies in the
mainstream now on the show and in real life if that happens. They
aren't getting any younger.

A DISMAL line-up. Thank goodness there are other summer series to watch.

1. Aquarius. For those who want a better-looking, more personable Charles Manson and the guy who didn't catch him.
2. Astronauts Wives Club. Soap?
3. Ballers. who cares?
4. Becoming Us. Revolting LGBT propaganda.
5. Hannibal. Never really interested.
6. Masters of Sex. Good show.
7. Mr. Robot. Socialist B.S., can't take drug-addict Slater seriously.
8. Orange is the new Black. Yuck!
9. Pretty Little Liars. Don't watch, don't care.
10. Mr. Robinson and the Carmichael Show. "Bounce TV" fare.
11. Scream. Hated the movies, won't watch the TV show.
12. Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll. Never really liked Leary in anything.
13. Sharknado 3. Crap. The joke is long-dead.
14. True Detective. First one, great. HATE Farrell, I hope it works.
15. Wet, Hot, etc, etc. NOT interested.

I like Yvonne a lot, but, for me, she was totally eclipsed by the
casting of the always lovely Odette Annable:

http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=+Odette+Annable

Sadly, there is a 99% chance that this thing will be too soapy for me,
despite her presence. But I'm hoping that the pilot proves me wrong
because Odette is *definitely* lamppost material for me. Plus, there's
no way in hell that, at 5'9", she's gonna fit in BTR's pocket.

In any case, this sounds like an extended version of the "The Original
Wives Club" episode of FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON miniseries from way
back when:

"I'm great, I think. I haven't been able to get ahold of anybody since I
got here, and I can't leave. And the only reason that I'm here is
because I was sent here to find you and Bill Evans. And guess what? I
found both of you. Only you're working in a toy store and living in a
house with a picket fence and a man named Harold, and Bill Evans's
mutilated corpse is rotting in an abandoned house on the outskirts of
town, which I found a little bit surprising. But other than that, I
couldn't be happier." -- Ethan Burke, WAYWARD PINES

He acts as well as Arnold and he's heading down the same road. Which
will leaving him laughing on his mountains of cash while people that
can act look on and weep. So many decent actors in Hollywood can't get
work (or at least regular work) and yet people that don't have the
same talent rise to the top either due to some dumb luck or a unique
personality that makes them stand out.

The Rock banked on his wrestling fame to help get him going in the
acting gig, much like many models have done the same with their
modeling fame as they break into acting.

I enjoyed season 1, and over on Amazon I see that they have a 3-
season box (11 discs) for $19.99, so I ordered it.

The premise is that members of a family are reincarnations of Norse
gods who took ship to New Zealand centuries ago. They don't have any
idea of their true nature till their 21st birthday. It's good summer
fun, nothing profound there.

I don't know if you can stream it, and Netflix doesn't have it on
DVD.

Syfy ran the first two seasons close together but has been mum on season
3. It's still on my "to be determined" list. But with no mention, and
all these new shows they're developing, it's looking like they don't
plan on running it. It can't cost much, so not many people must have

A situation very analogous to how TeenNICK handled "H2O" and "Dance
Academy". In the former case, TeenNICK took, IIRC, over *a year* before
finally airing season #3 of "H2O" (with no prior announcement!). In the
latter case, THEY NEVER DID air season #3 of "Dance Academy", and I had
to rely on my internet gremlin just to see it...

Between Siffy and ABC, they are really skewing us on season #3 of
"imports" this year... :(

season box (11 discs) for $19.99, so I ordered it.
It can't cost much, so not many people must have
watched.
Well, Ion picked up Saving Hope a year ago and hasn't shown anything
yet. Most curious...

I imagine you're right on all counts. I've seen only season 1 -- I
unplugged my cable between seasons 1 and 2. Hopefully I won't be
disappointed with seasons 2 and 3, but if I am then I've spent only
20% of what Time Warner charged me for a month.

You won't be disappointed ... season 1 was complete and utter bollocks,
and the following seasons are just as much idiotic, badly acted crap.
Thankfully the garbage was finally cancelled and no more tax-payer
money wasted on it. Unfortunately there are other equally useless New
Zealand shows still being made here. :-(

I found the first two seasons to be goofy, good-natured fun, although
there was something of a dark turn in the second season. I'll be sorry

You're right about "goofy fun". I saw season 1 on syfy, but since
it's been a year I started from the beginning, and have now binge-
watched my way 2/3 through season 2. I have to say that I guessed
correctly as to the identity of "the Frigg".

The complete 3-season set is $20.99 at Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R041EYK

It's the "unedited version", so no syfy bleeps and no cuts. I'm
pretty sure that in season 1 I saw whole scenes I'd never seen on
syfy. No special features worth mentioning (two commentaries on
season 1 episode 1, and brief "cast interviews"), but just getting
the whole show is enough at that price.

Spring for an extra $2.36 and get the 11-disc Blu-Ray version. I
don't know (Amazon doesn't say) what special features may be there,
but it's listed as 11 discs versus 9 for the DVD set.

The "special feature" is that they put a completely different show on
the discs, one that's actually worth watching ... The Snorks complete
series. ;-)

I wrote that after viewing season 2 episode 9. But in episode 13 the
writers wriggled out of that, in a fairly clever way.

I'm looking forward to season 3. Fortunately, I haven't long to wait,
since the complete series is on my table. :-)

When she pretty much propositioned him in the first ep., and he was
oblivious, and then later we learn that the Frigg is important to the
plot, I thought they had telegraphed the identity to the audience so we
could watch him bumble around the Frigg under his nose.

And they actually did a decent job of coming up with a way for her
not to9 be the one after all.

I liked season 3, and IMHO Jared Turner did a standout job portraying
Hod/Ty's complete personality change.

I question "a trick" in this context. It wasn't a retcon or anything
underhanded. It didn't seem any different to me from an episode of
/Elementary/ where we're led to believe the criminal is Person X and
then find out it's really Person Y. Misdirection is part of mysteries
and puzzles -- makes them more fun.

It's not /Firefly/, but I found it pretty entertaining overall.

You can stream at Amazon for $15-$20 per season, or you can get all
three seasons in one box for $21.[1] So it actually makes sense to
buy the DVDs, even if you watch them once and throw them away or give
them away.

I rewatched just the last episode of season 3 recently. I can't tell
whether they already knew they weren't going to get renewed, or not.
The closing scenes could have served equally well as wrapup or
jumping-off points for new plotlines.

[spoiler alert]

I was a little disappointed that we didn't see the gods in Asgard.
But it could have been only a short scene at best, and I imagine the
show's budget wouldn't cover the necessary sets. That would have been
something for season 4, though.

I don't mean in the sense that the writers violated any narrative rules.
If you'd rather, then it was Loki's trick, or the universe's trick.
I just mean that from the first episode, when Gaia tried clumsily to
proposition Axl, they seemed to be meant for each other. When I say it
was a trick, I mean that Gaia was indeed the One True Frigg, not an
impostor. That they did not end up together was Fate/Whatever tricking
them by trotting out an Irony Clause.

I haven't seen the third season, but my suspicion is that the new Frigg
isn't simply the old Frigg in a new body, and that she and Odin won't
have the same chemistry. That the course of god love would not run true
is the stuff of myth, so yeah, it works just fine as a story
development. (Gaia wuz robbed!%! But I'll get over it.)

I haven't really got an entertainment budget past contributing to a
household cable bill.

Thanks for the spoiler warning. I deleted everything past it. I'm
hoping the series will come my way on the cheap eventually.

It's really a clever lesson in how one can do an amusing and engaging
fantasy show without much of a budget to speak of.

I hated Firefly the first time around and stopped watching the first
episode after only a few minutes. It was re-run here not long ago and I
gave it another try ... it's not brilliant (and some episodes are just
rubbish), but it is a bit better than I initially thought.

Gotcha. I can agree with the word as you explained it. But I don't
think Loki had anything to do with Gaia not being Frigg, did he? Or
are you talking about his setting up the marriage between Eva and Axl
while letting everyone think Eva was Frigg?

Well, technically Gaia never was Frigg. She was _destined_ to be, but
instead of becoming Frigg she became Idunn.

But your guess is correct: the season 3 Frigg had nothing in common
with Gaia.

I forget the details, but basically, yeah, the rules that govern the
gods' lives tricked them, and Loki added to their misery by realizing
what would happen and not telling them.

Ah well. If it were happily ever after, the show would end. Plus,
that's not the stuff of myth, or even taking the piss out of myth.
