Post by Stan BrownPost by Micky DuPreePost by Stan BrownI have to say that I guessed correctly as to the identity of "the
Frigg".
And they actually did a decent job of coming up with a way for her
not to be the one after all.
It was a clever trick, but a trick nevertheless.
I question "a trick" in this context. It wasn't a retcon or anything
underhanded. It didn't seem any different to me from an episode of
/Elementary/ where we're led to believe the criminal is Person X and
then find out it's really Person Y. Misdirection is part of mysteries
and puzzles -- makes them more fun.
I don't mean in the sense that the writers violated any narrative rules.
If you'd rather, then it was Loki's trick, or the universe's trick.
I just mean that from the first episode, when Gaia tried clumsily to
proposition Axl, they seemed to be meant for each other. When I say it
was a trick, I mean that Gaia was indeed the One True Frigg, not an
impostor. That they did not end up together was Fate/Whatever tricking
them by trotting out an Irony Clause.
I haven't seen the third season, but my suspicion is that the new Frigg
isn't simply the old Frigg in a new body, and that she and Odin won't
have the same chemistry. That the course of god love would not run true
is the stuff of myth, so yeah, it works just fine as a story
development. (Gaia wuz robbed!%! But I'll get over it.)
Post by Stan BrownPost by Micky DuPreePost by Stan BrownI liked season 3, and IMHO Jared Turner did a standout job
portraying Hod/Ty's complete personality change.
Maybe one of these decades I'll get to see it.
It's not /Firefly/, but I found it pretty entertaining overall.
I found _Firefly_ to be a precious slog. I know I'm in the minority,
but I was not impressed.
Post by Stan BrownYou can stream at Amazon for $15-$20 per season, or you can get all
three seasons in one box for $21.[1] So it actually makes sense to
buy the DVDs, even if you watch them once and throw them away or give
them away.
I haven't really got an entertainment budget past contributing to a
household cable bill.
Thanks for the spoiler warning. I deleted everything past it. I'm
hoping the series will come my way on the cheap eventually.
It's really a clever lesson in how one can do an amusing and engaging
fantasy show without much of a budget to speak of.
