Does anyone know whatever happened to Beth Howland who played the wacky
wattress "Vera" on the old Alice sitcom?

I don't remember seeing her in any other TV shows, commercials or anything.

The last time I saw Beth was in a "Chicken Soup for the Soul" episode 5 years
ago. That was the only thing I ever saw her in post-Alice. I think I was the
one who entered that in her IMDB credits.

She also does a lot of musical theater.

When a TV or movie actor disappears for a good long while, it's
generally not unreasonable to assume they're doing stage.

Her costar, Celia Weston, (who played Jolene), has done lots of stage work
and was nominated a few years back for a Tony. I saw her most recently in a
small role in "The Hulk"

She turned up on an episode of Sabrina once.

I've seen Celia in a few things. I believe she was in Dead Man Walking,
and Lost Angels, although according to the IMDB, she's been in quite
afew movies over the last few years

I've seen Celia in TV guest shots several times over the past few years. She
was a nun/small town doctor on "ER", she was on L&O:SVU, and she was Felicity
Huffman's mother on "Out of Order".

I wonder if she was ill (or had a drinking problem) because she has aged much
more horribly than most of her co-stars.

Yes, I got to see her in LAST NIGHT AT BALLYHOO. Howland made a big
impression on me in the original production of the Stephen
Sondheim/George Furth musical COMPANY-- singing the patter section in
the trio "Getting Married Today."

Such as dinner theater in Topeka.

In her bio Vivian Vance says she had a better time doing Dinner Theatre
than she did working with Lucy. If Ms. Howland is doing *musical* Dinner
Theatre-- she's probably supported by a cast with more talent than 92
percent of all television and film actors.

Vance also compared root canal favorably to the experience of working with
Lucy. She *despised* Lucy.

And enjoying being surrounded by talent and real music? (The kind one
can't find on TV today.)
