Everyone buying, driving, or making "self-driving" cars has a low IQ. :-\

For a start (and ignoring the silliness of expecting a computer to be
able to drive properly and safely!) these morons seem to think
self-driving cars are the salvation of the planet when it comes to
traffic congestion. They think this for two main reason, both of which
are flawed.

A. They think cars that self-drive will be able to travel closer together,
therefore freeing up road space ... except that if you don't need the
license or skills to drive, that means EVERYONE can be in a car - parents
will be sending their kids to school in a car by themsevels while the
parents go to work in a car by themselves, disbaled people will be able
to have their own car, people can even send their pets to the vet by
themselves in a car ... that means *a* *lot* more cars on the road.

B. They think that car-share systems will mean fewer cars around ... except
that car-share systems do not work. Nobody wants to get into a car that
the previous user has vomited in, etc. So people will still want their
own car.

The problem is Uber disables the standard Volvo collision-avoidance
systems, which probably would've worked better.

Seems like car companies could opt-out of allowing this kind of use of their vehicles. If you were suing on behalf of your dead wife, whatever, you'd go after UBER and Volvo. If Volvo wants to maintain the one thing that differentiates them from other car makers (safety) they should think about it.

And Volvo can simply turn around and truthfully say "Not our fault. The
morons at Uber turned our system off. It's their fault."

It can't possibly be anything to do with Volvo. Volvo's system was
turned off because Uber wanted to test their own system ... which
obviously doesn't work. Pretty impossible to properly test your own
system if the manufacturer's system keeps over-riding or pre-empting it.
