Why would superman be greying at the temples?
Because he's getting old. Here's a panel from "Kingdom Come"

I guess 'cause he's older. I mean, Kal-El *does* age, after all. He came to
earth as a baby and grew up at the same rate as normal human, so it would
stand to reason that a future Superman would show signs of middle-age just
like people do.

What good is a superman who dies in a human lifetime? Does he get ill too? Spiderman did, but he wasn't an alien.

Spiderman did, but he wasn't an alien.
Different Supermen age differently. IIRC there are some that age normally,
one that we know lived to be 1000, and one that we know lived to be 30,000
(and Lana waited for him all that time).

There was also one who was effectively immortal.

The one I grew up with, who aged normally, would be about 90 now.

Immortal, but he ages, so that means he's condemned to a hell of
constantly getting older and more decrepit for ever and ever. Egad!

Routh looks great and the costume is perfect, from what I can see. I
didn't think they'd spend the money, but they did. I'm looking forward
to this even more now.

BTW they said in the piece that Tom Welling was in. First I'd heard
that.

Kingdom Come was about twenty years ahead in the comics. I wonder if
Routh is supposed to be the Superman from RETURNS but older, bitter and
alone -- in which case, Dean Cain wouldn't be perfect for it.

Also, they couldn't get Dean Cain? He's too busy or something?

I always wondered why and how Superman was all muscular like that. He's
Kryptonian. His strength comes from his being an alien, not because of
his huge muscles. He could push the entire planet out of orbit with
Patton Oswalt's physique. So what kind of weights does he have in the
Fortress of Solitude gym that would give him a decent enough workout to
produce this:

Yes, you're exactly right.

I've said this before: In Now and Again, it would have been much more
effective if the late Michael Wiseman continued to see himself as John
Goodman, even if the rest of the world saw him as Eric Close. At least
Close isn't a bulked-out actor.

Joe Straczynski's alternative take on a young Superman ca. 2014
(Superman: Earth One) portrayed him as slightly built.

Dean Cain is WAY too openly conservative and orthodox for someone like
Berlanti, which I've always assumed has played a role in how little he's
been used in this world once he made it obvious that he wasn't gonna toe
the Berlanti line.

I think it speaks more to the desire of these actors getting together
one last time in these roles. There's been no money in this for the
guest stars. Leonard Nimoy once observed that there's a continuing
obligation to playing a role as iconic as Spock, and that sometimes he
did so even if the money or even desire weren't there.

Michael Rosenbaum doesn't feel that way, I guess.

Yeah, it's a cameo. An actor getting a 1 or 2 minute cameo doesn't get
script approval! You do it for the fans, not for the money. I get it's
a business and he doesn't have to work for free. But something like
this keeps his name out there and builds up good will among the fans.
If he doesn't want to do it then just make up an excuse about scheduling
conflicts. Don't alienate the fans of the show by complaining about
money and the script.

I'm not sure if I've seen this mentioned in this thread yet but Linda
Carter may be back as Wonder Woman. She and Helen Slater are already on
the show so it's just a matter of getting them back into their old suits.

It was also announced the other day that one of the characters from the
2002 "Birds of Prey" will be reprising her role. They are clearly
putting in the effort to reach out to any and everyone. At this point
if Cain or anyone else isn't in it (Kevin Spacey excepted), it's because
they didn't want to be in it.

I watched Impastor for Michael Rosenbaum. He seems like a decent guy and
I wanted him to have a decent career. Smallville wasn't good much of the
time; hell, at times, it was terrible. His performance was often the
only redeeming part of an episode, and the show got really bad when he
was off it. He was a lot better than the scripts.

I don't think he ever complained about Smallville scripts either, and he
was in the main cast!

Wish he had more fans. Impaster might have gotten a third season.

Never watched IMPASTOR but did love Rosenbaum's version of The Flash

Michael Rosenbaum doesn't feel that way, I guess.
Yeah, it's a cameo. An actor getting a 1 or 2 minute cameo doesn't get
script approval! You do it for the fans, not for the money. I get it's
a business and he doesn't have to work for free. But something like
this keeps his name out there and builds up good will among the fans.
If he doesn't want to do it then just make up an excuse about scheduling
conflicts. Don't alienate the fans of the show by complaining about
money and the script.

Why would superman be greying at the temples?
Old Superman!
Routh isn't really old enough for this. Dean Cain might have been a better
choice.
Routh looks great and the costume is perfect, from what I can see. I
didn't think they'd spend the money, but they did.
The image I've seen looked like a Photoshop pastiche.
I'm looking forward
to this even more now.
BTW they said in the piece that Tom Welling was in. First I'd heard
that.
Welling and Durance are in. Lex turned it down, saying they wanted him to
commit with no script, shooting date, or money.
If Lex is telling the truth, then it speaks to the state of Welling's
and Durance's careers and bank balances.

Rosenbaum has made a mistake here IMHO, but of course it's entirely his
call. *My* next call would be to John Shea, the Lex Luthor of LOIS &

Kingdom Come was about twenty years ahead in the comics. I wonder if
Routh is supposed to be the Superman from RETURNS but older, bitter and
yes
alone -- in which case, Dean Cain wouldn't be perfect for it.
Also, they couldn't get Dean Cain? He's too busy or something?
I haven't heard a hint of a whisper about Lois and Clark.
Dean Cain is WAY too openly conservative and orthodox for someone like
Berlanti, which I've always assumed has played a role in how little he's
been used in this world once he made it obvious that he wasn't gonna toe
the Berlanti line.
Cain has played Kara's adoptive father in SUPERGIRL and they haven't
spent a lot of time on the older Danverses so, no, not so much.
I'm not sure if I've seen this mentioned in this thread yet but Linda
Carter may be back as Wonder Woman. She and Helen Slater are already on
the show so it's just a matter of getting them back into their old suits.
Both of them are probably laughing hysterically at the idea of getting
back into those suits.

Lynda Carter is cheap to hire. She doesn't need a trailer nor dressing

That would have only made sense if they had wanted him to appear immediately.
I guess he was ticked off that they insisted on talking to him that minute.

I'm getting the idea that Crisis is becoming A Thing. They're finding
the money, or they're being given more money, or maybe it's just that
it's suddenly dawned on them that they're doing one for the record
books, so they're reaching out to everyone they can think of.

My takeaway from these crossovers has always been that it's a shame that
the people who actually WRITE them are nowhere near as talented as the
marketing people who promote them.

And then I turn around and watch the next one. Because I'm an idiot.

I mean, this next one couldn't have FAN SERVICE!!! written in bigger
neon letters if it tried. And these writers aren't anywhere near in the
same league as the ones who put together the Avengers team-up. So I know
that they're going to screw it all to holy hell. But I'll still be
watching. Because did I mention that I'm an idiot?

Nah. Asking to see the script is completely reasonable. If they don't have
one then they've asked him to commit to an unknown amount of time at an
unknown date for almost no money to do who knows what. When *everything* is a
mystery, you turn it down, unless you're already free the rest of your life.
I admire him for his honesty.

Rosenbaum may not want to get his head shaved for just a 1- or 2-minute

that he loved the show and the role, but for that one aspect, which he
loathed.

Oh. I wondered why they jettisoned him early on. Good point.

Too bad, it would have been good to see him as Danvers and Clark again.

I've yet to read if they're going to have Helen Slater do anything.

Keep in mind that while it's no secret that Cain thinks along the lines
of you and me while Berlanti...doesn't, it's still just an assumption on
my part that Berlanti is holding that against Cain. But I've seen enough
comments from the guy over the years to suggest that he's more than
capable of being an asshat in that regard.

That's one of the VERY few things that always impressed me with Joss
Whedon: the way that he and Adam Baldwin could work so well together and
even get along (mostly) despite Baldwin almost certainly being to the
right of Cain (since it's hard to imagine anyone in Hollywood being to
the right of Baldwin).

Oh. I wondered why they jettisoned him early on. Good point.
Cain's capable of being an asshat in any regard. I lost any respect I had for
him when I saw him in an interview (Howard Stern?) bragging about
devirginizing Brooke Shields. Of course then I was totally perplexified when
Jessica Alba was talking about being devirginized by DiNozzo. Who the Hell
goes on TV and talks about this stuff?
Post by Jim G.

At least two people, apparently. Actually, let's not forget that Demi
claims in her new book that she took Charlie Sheen's TV brother's cherry
(which he denies of course, claiming to have already been a manly man by
then). So we're already up to three -- with two of the talkers being the
women in the equation!

Berlanti hired Kevin Sorbo to play Mon-El's father and, of course, he
hired Dean Cain to play Pa Danvers. Maybe Berlanti can be an asshat
about stuff, but these choices do not demonstrate asshattery.

Exactly. Hire 'em, get as much free publicity as possible in the usual
press from the name recognition, and then cast 'em off since you know
that your core fans and true Berlanti homers have their ADHD ratcheted
up to 11.

C'mon. It was stunt casting. Pa Danvers isn't a continuing role any
more than Ma Danvers is, and I've never heard that someone's got the
shiv out for Helen Slater.

And you saw Kevin Sorbo. Good God, the kindest thing you could have
said about his appearance on SUPERGIRL was that he looked "bleary."

I'd quit before Sorbo showed up. I think I saw him briefly in a preview.

It seems to me that his political views were pretty well known BEFORE he
was hired, but I could be wrong. OTOH, I would be shocked if he kept
those views to himself once he was on set. So either way, his views
would have surely been known at the time that he left the role one way
or another.

Right. At some point -- his FIREFLY days, most likely -- I recall seeing
that this point was being repeated in enough stories to make me wonder
why they were repeating it in so many stories. I figured that one of 'em
was doing his best to use the media to disown the other.

It's weapons porn. Things get shot at and blown up. This is its fifth
season. The show used to be hosted by R. Lee Ermey, hence the title.

I'd never heard of it, either. I blew the Outdoor Channel off my
schedule grid a long time ago.

was doing his best to use the media to disown the other.
I think it's because there's a half gaggle of lesser Baldwins, so
confusification is inevitable.
Speaking of Adam, has he popped up anywhere since LAST SHIP ended?
Just this, which I've never heard of
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10810872/reference
It's weapons porn. Things get shot at and blown up. This is its fifth
season. The show used to be hosted by R. Lee Ermey, hence the title.
https://www.outdoorchannel.com/show/gunnytime/1553
I'd never heard of it, either. I blew the Outdoor Channel off my
schedule grid a long time ago.
There were a couple of outdoors/sporting/hunting channels. They used to
do shows about how dogs were used in the field by hunters. Those were
fascinating. I haven't seen a show like that in years, and the rest of
it is unwatchable. I don't remember which satellite channel it was.

It really is interesting that two celebrity Baldwins could be such vocal
polar opposites.
True, but the Baldwin on Firefly isn't related to them.
Right. At some point -- his FIREFLY days, most likely -- I recall seeing
that this point was being repeated in enough stories to make me wonder
why they were repeating it in so many stories. I figured that one of 'em
was doing his best to use the media to disown the other.

"GunnyTime" is a fully immersive host-driven television series
focusing on weapons and weapons technology past, present and future.

So they are taking over for R. Lee Ermey

Hmm. His career trajectory seems to be getting close to a computer voice
saying: "Terrain! Pull up! Terrain! Pull up!"

He's not THAT Baldwin,
It really is interesting that two celebrity Baldwins could be such vocal

LOL! I wouldn't want to be associated with that asshole either.

I don't know that there is one. The CW announced a few months ago they
wouldn't be coming back this season, and then announced he'd be back as
Superman in the Crisis. I assume cost cutting being as he's been with Legends
since before it *was* Legends.

Two quotes:

“I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to bring the big-hearted and
humorous Ray Palmer to life for our fans over the last 5 years, but
unfortunately, his storyline is pointed in another direction,” Routh said
in a statement. “I’m saddened to see Ray’s journey end for now but wish
my ‘Legends’ family well.”

“Nora Darhk is very close to my heart,” said Ford. “If it were my
choice, I’d play her for years to come. But I understand that stories run
their course, and I’m grateful for the time I did have bringing Nora to
life on ‘Legends of Tomorrow.'”

Sure sounds to me like they got canned, especially her.

Take it to the bank. They haven't had anything for Ray to do lately,

I have no idea. I stopped watching all their shows one by one, from Arrow to
Da Flash. I don't think I saw any of it last season.

And now I've set the DVR to record *all* of it just for The Crisis.

Yes. Different universes. The only other surviving Lois I can think of
is Phyllis Coates. Now wouldn't *that* be cool.

Kingdom Come Lois would be dead, having been killed (along with Jimmy
Olsen and much of the rest of the Daily Planet staff) by the Joker in
an attack on the building fifteen or twenty years from "now."

This is gonna rock.
sounds good, i hope they don't muck it up.
erica durance is coming back, not sure who she'll be playing.
Lois Lane, opposite Tom Welling's Clark Kent. (He still won't wear the
suit.) It's possible Durance could be playing Kara's mother as well.
two lanes? durance and tulloch?
Yes. Different universes. The only other surviving Lois I can think of
is Phyllis Coates. Now wouldn't *that* be cool.
Best Lois there ever was.

But, um, Teri Hatcher?
Dana Delany?
Amy Adams?
Kate Bosworth?
Patricia Marand?
Lesley Ann Warren?
Mary McDonald Lewis?
Anne Heche? (no wonder Superman wanted to die)
Sirena Irwin?
Kyra Sedgwick?
Christina Hendricks?
Grey Delisle?
Pauley Perrette?
Stana Katic?
Juliet Landau?
Paget Brewster?
Ginny McSwain?
Monica Murray?
Cindy Robinson?
Adrienne Mischer?
Alexis Call?
Grey Griffin?
Tara Strong?
Kingdom Come Lois would be dead, having been killed (along with Jimmy
Olsen and much of the rest of the Daily Planet staff) by the Joker in
an attack on the building fifteen or twenty years from "now."

Voice-only won't cut it for me here. They don't have or want Cain, so
I see no reason to include Hatcher, and I summarily dismissed her from
my "think of" list. (I'd include Coates because, even under the
happiest of circumstances, George would be 'way too dead to include in
Crisis, seeing as he'd be, um, 105. Maybe a photo?) I didn't even
*think* to include the Cavill movies. I thought we were supposed to be
having a good time here.

As I said, Kate Bosworth's Lois would be dead if Superman Returns
Superman is Kingdom Come Superman.

Patricia Marand died in November 2008. BTW Bob Holiday, her Superman,
died in January 2017.

He's a very good actor. I hate a hell of a lot of the other actors doing
voice work in DC animation.
