I don't really follow Argentinian politics but I was interested to see
that a "right wing" guy who had been compared to Trump had won
yesterday's weekend's presidential election in Argentina, especially
given that a centre-left government had dominated its politics for the
past 40 years,

https://www.ft.com/content/38f718d3-0289-4b12-8faf-245c19d65cb0

It's going to be interesting to see if a right-leaning economist can
make life better in Argentina after decades of leftist government has
(apparently) mangled their economy....

My last foreign trip before retirement was Buenos Aires. It was an
amazing city. Some of the best steakhouses in the world. I still dream o
some off the meals I had there.

Somehow, I was expecting you to be more excited about a libertarian
president that about the steakhouses ;-)

From what I've read, Argentina was widely expected to be a very rich
and successful country around about 1900 but then it fell off a cliff
and has continued to fall, almost without interruption. That's why I'm
very curious to see what this new guy does and if he can turn it
around....

You never forget a great steak. One of the best I ever had was at a
little place near Williamsburg VA.

Newporter Inn, Newport, California. Bordelaise sauce. And they served the
beverages in pewter goblets which since I was a kid I got a Coke and you
pour that in the pewter goblet and it steams like a poison chalice from the
palace :-)

Do you remember *where* near Williamsburg? Name of
restaurant? I'm only ~50 miles from there.

When I was in grad school there in ancient times, there
were only about three restaurants in the whole area,
including the Howard Johnsons. Luckily I commuted for
most of my time there, so I had other options to get
real (and less expensive) food. How times have changed
there in the restaurant options these days!

Nyssa, who hasn't been to W-burg for five years or
so, but a day trip is always an option

I'm sorry, but I can't. This was back in 1992.

Thank God I'm vegan. I don't even consider dead animal flesh to be
food, you might as well be shoveling dirt into your mouth.

The leftists ran (as they do) the economy into the ground. This was no surprise.

I don't count a libertarian economist as "right leaning".

This would be a fairly ordinary economist.
