"US Election 2020: Trump and Biden row over Covid, climate and racism"

All that matters in the scheme of things is the economy, which means the U.S. economy and how it is influenced by other countries, mainly China. That is what they should have been talking about.
Covid has been talked to DEATH, they are doing what they can about it, move on. Climate Change (formerly, "global warming") is highly complex and its reality and impacts mostly unproven from any rigorous scientific standpoint. Racism has come down to one race out of many who believe they are kept-down by a society does not value them. Truth is, that "race" is the odd-man out in the world, the only race who can't cope with a technological modern world.
All this meant was another debate was wasted, nothing was learned and nothing of merit was discussed in a debate forum controlled by liberals.

Because the deficit certainly isn't worth talking about.

Give it up, David - nobody gives a shit about the deficit, least of all
the voters. That has been proven over and over again.

Republicans and Democrats have given up any pretense of ever getting a handle on debt. Neither party has the GUTS needed to CUT SPENDING. All they worry about is "bought votes" and no one ever did that by cutting money to people.

If you truly want major decreases in the annual deficit, that requires
major cuts to military spending. You'll never admit that. The domestic
spending part of the budget has never been a majority of the budget.

Right, so social security and medicare are just small slices of the
budget... [roll]

Social security and medicare payments aren't totally paid for out of the
budge.

How do you not know this? Social Security programs and veterans pensions
are entitlements. There is no budget to pass and no appropriation. The
authorizing legislation doesn't require appropriating legislation.

The domestic spending part of the budget, which I guess also includes
foreign spending, has never been a majority of the budget.

There is no budget to pass and no appropriation. The
authorizing legislation doesn't require appropriating legislation.
So, we're still spending money on it. It is literally part of the budget.

Only if you ignore entitlements, which is the definition of a cynical
shell game.

It means there isn't an annual appropriation and it doesn't go through
the budget-making process. Everything else does.

Ok. It's still not part of the political debate when Congress passes
that annual appropriations bills.

Because all production was shipped to China by Clinton and later, Bush.
