Martin Luther King Day and this new one? Is that enough? Would you like more? How about 365 days of racially-based, pandering-to-black uselessness and self-victimization holidays?

What about the Asian holidays?? And the Pacific Island holidays?? And
the Latino holidays?? And the 'Native American' holidays?? You *must*
include all of those too, but you will have room since you'll have to
remove all the "white man's" holidays due to them now being illegal.

Sure... just as soon as we kidnap them, stick them on a boat, enslave
them and use them as breeding stock to make money for us.

Then the comparison will be valid. Juneteenth would be a celebration
recognizing the righting of the wrongs we carried out for centuries.

Isn't MLK already doing the same thing? Doesn't the TRILLIONS of dollars
spent on trying to make things better for blacks since the 1964 Civil
Rights Act count for anything?

And what about all the OTHER people who have suffered over the millenia?
The Jews, for instance, have surely suffered at least as grievously over
the millenia as the blacks to the point where two thirds of the European
Jews were murdered less than a century ago, within our parents'
lifetimes. Their history also includes slavery within their history?

Then there are the Armenians who suffered a major genocide near the end
of the First World War at the hands of the Turks. And the Ukrainians
(and Russians) who perished in Stalin's collectivization campaign; some
historians put the number of victims at 9 million people. The Irish have
strong grievances with the English, including the Potato Famine; the
Catholic and Protestant Irish have had bloody conflicts with one another
within recent memory and may again if the border issue isn't sorted. And
so on.

And of course humans have waged wars, large and small, as long as there
have been humans, every one of which could be argued as being unjust and
virtually all of which had victims. Many of those wars were ethnic in
nature: one tribe or ethnicity - or sometimes a collection of related
ones - against another tribe or tribe in pursuit of territory,
resources, women, or just vengeance over some slight.

All of the people who perished in THOSE events are also victims. I can't
honestly think of ANY group that has NEVER been a victim of unwarranted
and destructive aggression at some point in time although some have been
the victim more than others.

Painting blacks as UNIQUELY victimized is utterly ludicrous. History is
full of examples of victims, sometimes chronic victims, of abuse at the
hands of more aggressive groups. If you don't recognize that, you are
lying to yourself and everyone around you. (Not that this would be
unusual, you do it all the time on this newsgroup.)

Commemorating only the blacks is an insult to every other group that has
ever been tormented.

Look around, Rhino. Did it work?

"close examination of wealth in the U.S. finds evidence of staggering
racial disparities. At $171,000, the net worth of a typical white family
is nearly ten times greater than that of a Black family ($17,150) in 2016."

It hasn't gotten much better. So the answer to that would be a big 'no'.

I do NOT accept your assertion that things are not much better but I
have got more important things to do with my day than spend major
amounts of time digging up rebuttal material that you will just declare
irrelevant anyway. We've played that game way too many times already and
I'm sick of it.
It hasn't gotten much better. So the answer to that would be a big 'no'.
Okay, explain how another black holiday is going to make it all better.
Also, explain why you would ignore all the other groups that have
suffered in favour of the blacks as if they alone have suffered.

I quoted you the facts from the study. It wasn't MY assertion, you
idiot - it's a fact.

Go ahead, then... quote me YOUR facts. Do you even HAVE any?
Oh... that's right - you don't have the 'time'... well, THAT'S a good
excuse for not having a leg to stand on.

And who the fuck said another holiday would make things 'better'? That's
one.
Here's two... we ENSLAVED blacks. We bought and sold blacks. We
massacred blacks.

We have a holiday for Christopher Columbus celebrating the fact that he
got lost... what the fuck is with THAT?

You have the time to shoot your mouth off... but not enough time to
PROVE what that big fat yap spits out? Yeah, sure... that's what every

The days of that federal holiday are surely numbered as the hysteria
continues.

So since we have way too many federal holidays IMO at least there will
be no net gain when they cave to make June Nineteenth a federal holiday.

There's talk about renaming it "Indigenous People's Day", which just
rolls off the tongue.

Christmas is always on the block, though... and, really, how does the
government say it's NOT favoring one religion over others, since it's
kind of a given what the holiday is celebrating.

They say it by noting correctly that while it may have had religious
origins, it's now a secular holiday in practice.

Having a day off for Christmas is no more a religious accommodation in
2020 than having Saturday and Sunday off is a religious accommodation,
despite the religious nature of those days' origins [Saturn's Day, Sun's

"Secular in practice" isn't a binary attribute, and Xmas probably has as
many individual evaluations as there are individuals who practice it (or
don't).

Personally, I seldom favor the "renovation" of basically benign
traditions. But, as a thought-experiment, consider a proposal, say, to
rename Xmas 'Santa Solstice' and to move it to the third Friday in
December. I suggest that the average outrage that would greet such a
proposal equals the exclusion now felt by those without Xmas pasts...

But the nature of the "upset" would be different, i.e., differently
"felt". I doubt many feel an emotional connection to Saturday, and
would resent mainly the mere upheaval ...especially if it were
pointless. Compare it, e.g., to the proposed elimination of Daylight
Savings Time, which actually has a point. Otoh, messing with Xmas in
any way, shape, or form would likely incur the heartfelt wrath of even
atheists, who'd also feel the pain of lost sectarian tradition.

Of course... but Thanny seems to be denying the obvious hypocrisy of

It just isn't.

Christmas and Easter do not really have anything to do with the
mythical Jesus of the Bible's fiction stories anyway. The early
Christian church simply hijacked the existing pagan celebrations for
their own use.

Christmas is always on the block, though... and, really, how does the
government say it's NOT favoring one religion over others
They say it by noting correctly that while it may have had religious
origins, it's now a secular holiday in practice.
Having a day off for Christmas is no more a religious accommodation in
2020 than having Saturday and Sunday off is a religious accommodation,
despite the religious nature of those days' origins [Saturn's Day, Sun's
(Ra's) Day]
The simple fact of the matter is that it's NOT a secular holiday. It's
named after a religious figure, not a secular figure. IT'S RIGHT THERE
IN THE NAME. Absolutely NOBODY denies that - and all Christians
celebrate it that way.

So why don't we just change Christmas to Mohammedday, or just add it as
a new holiday? You'd be OK with that, too, right? In a 'secular'
sense, of course!

We have a holiday for Christopher Columbus celebrating the fact that
he got lost... what the fuck is with THAT?
The days of that federal holiday are surely numbered as the hysteria
continues.
So since we have way too many federal holidays IMO at least there will
be no net gain when they cave to make June Nineteenth a federal holiday.
Columbus didn't "get lost". He was trying to get to India, but
"discovered" a brand new continent that was in the way, blocking his
route westward.

The real question is why Columbus is celebrated at all when the Vikings
found North America long before Columbus was even born. Or the Asians
found it even longer before that by walking / sailing across from Russia

All holidays should be commemorative. Giving federal works a paid day
off doesn't commemorate anything.

Actually calculations have been done suggesting that with the speed of
late 15th century ships, had there been no land between Spain and the
western Pacific where additional food could be obtained Columbus'
three ships couldn't possibly have carried enough food to get more
than half way there without mass starvation amongst the crews.

Yes Columbus thought the earth was round but thought it much smaller
than it is now known to be. He thought he was approaching China when
he in fact was approaching Hispaniola

He did know where he was ... on his way to India. The fact that he ran
into a big chunk of unknown land in his path is not the definition of
being lost, it's the definition of being blocked and having to find an
alternative route. If America had not been there, he would have
eventually (barring any accidents or running out of food) made it to
India.

If you're driving in your city to go to the local supermarket and find
your usual road is closed for repairs, you are not lost. You know where
you are, but simply have to find a different route to use.

The real question is why Columbus is celebrated at all when the Vikings
found North America long before Columbus was even born.
That would really cause leftists' heads to explode: renaming Columbus Day
something like Viking Heritage Day.

Tut, tut ... that's another "naughty stereotype". You'll have the
Viking descendants baying for your blood now and ripping down all those
statues of you. ;-)

There is no evidence to suggest that real Vikings ever wore horned
helmets. It's a myth created and perpetuated by the entertainment
industry (originally the Germans for opeas, but also continued
Hollyweird).

Sorry - those horned helmets are pure Hollywood and not the least
rooted in reality.

So say the tour guides in L'Anse aux Meadows in Northern Newfoundland
(whose Viking ruins - which I have personally visited - are the only
proven Viking remains in North America)

(Now to be sure they have leather armor and dulled swords and axes for
the tourists to play with but they DON'T have horned helmets)

Bronze Age northern Europeans were sporting horned helmets, of course
this was long before the Viking Era.

The outrageous worldwide holiday that should have been cancelled in 1939
is Armistace Day.

Christmas is a holiday thanks to Dickens. Labor Day is at the wrong time

No we don't - Columbus Day isn't a statutory holiday in any
jurisdiction I know of - nor is St Patricks. There's a world of
difference and you are both old enough to understand the difference
while being grossly disingenuous by obscuring it.

There's a huge difference between observed days and days that are paid
time-off holidays which directly impacts businesses bottom lines.

If you are truly ignorant of the difference (which I very much doubt)
just go to Google and enter "employment standards statutory holidays"
then your state name - for ex.
https://dor.wa.gov/contact-us/state-holiday-schedule
(for Washington state)

And let's be clear - adding additional paid holidays IS a direct tax
on businesses - it's not a gift by the state or national government.

What kind of country is Canada? There are no business holidays in
the United States, with the exception of blue laws which were found
unconstitutional free exercise of religion. Some states do have specific
laws on the books restricting hours of specific types of businesses,
though. Without religious references, those laws aren't unconstitutional
on those grounds. But those are exceptional.

With those rare exceptions, there are no business holidays in the United
States by statutory mandate.

What kind of country is Canada? There are no business holidays in
the United States, with the exception of blue laws which were found
unconstitutional free exercise of religion. Some states do have specific
laws on the books restricting hours of specific types of businesses,
though. Without religious references, those laws aren't unconstitutional
on those grounds. But those are exceptional.
With those rare exceptions, there are no business holidays in the United
States by statutory mandate.
You can determine statutory holidays in pretty much any state or
province by Googling "employment standards statutory holidays"
followed by state or province name. I previously gave the list for WA
state but you can find any of them this way.

You have the time to shoot your mouth off... but not enough time to
PROVE what that big fat yap spits out? Yeah, sure... that's what every
loudmouth says.
Not in the USA, it isn't. I worked 43 years at one place, and we NEVER
got all the Federal Holidays off.

"Do I have to give employees time off on federal holidays?

As an employer, you do not have to give employees federal holidays off,
unless you’re a financial institution or government entity.

Currently, there is no federal law that requires employers to give their
workers a holiday off of work. It’s usually done at the employer’s merit
(except for banks and government.)

Additionally, if an employer does give their employees holidays off,
they’re not required by the law to pay employees for that time."

We never got Washington's Birthday off, or MLK day. They never paid us
a penny for those days, and if we called out, it was considered a black
mark.

The English are responsible for a hell of a lot of wars over the

Martin Luther King Day and this new one?  Is that enough?  Would you
like more?  How about 365 days of racially-based, pandering-to-black
uselessness and self-victimization holidays?
https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/black-lives-matter-protests-06-19-2020/h_66251eb718a16461aeaea7eb3aa0b234
What about the Asian holidays?? And the Pacific Island holidays?? And
the Latino holidays?? And the 'Native American' holidays?? You *must*
include all of those too, but you will have room since you'll have to
remove all the "white man's" holidays due to them now being illegal. :-\
Sure... just as soon as we kidnap them, stick them on a boat, enslave
them and use them as breeding stock to make money for us.
Stand for America and never bend a knee for the left-wing Democrats.

That was IN THE PAST.

Most black people today aren't suffering (except perhaps by their own
sheer laziness, but that's not unique to black people). In fact they
are far better off because their ancestors were brought to America,
England, etc. rather than being left in third-world African countries
where they likely would be truely suffering things like famines,
genocidal warfare, ebola, etc.

These morons who whine on about how bad their lives are because of the
past and because the "white man" came and stole everything need to
think about what they do have. If they're that "angry", then they
should be shipped off to a desert island somewhere without access to
any modern assistance and live the same way their ancestors did. Almost
all of them wouldn't last a week without their mobile phones for a
start.

Where did I say "slavery was great"?!? I said ancestors being brought
to western countries was a benefit for the *current* generation.

Slavery itself also has little to do with race either. African people
were not the only slaves in history by any stretch of the imagination.
There's also been Asian slaves, the "uncivilised" people of Europe
being brought back as slaves for the Roman Empire, etc.

Blacks were massacred in the 1920's, after being declared free, and with
all the rights of citizens by Constitutional Amendment.. Were they
'better off' being shot, lynched, bombed and dragged by chains behind a
truck?

They were lynched up until 1981 - over 150 years after the end of the

You make me laugh! Nothing to do with race! Jesus!

This is in the Age of Enlightenment... We kept at it long after we knew

A quota system would only hurt Blacks, as they’re barely 15% of the
population and thus many would lose their jobs to Whites and Hispanics
if we were to level the playing field.

For example, over half the well paid unionized employees of Chrysler’s
Dodge City truck plant down the road here, are Black.

Indeed, slavery was common throughout the world back in oldy timey days,
it’s nothing unique to American history and furthermore, the overwhelming
majority of African slaves went to the Caribbean and S.America with only a
fraction of a percentage to the U.S. and as you point out, Black-Americans
are the most successful ethnic African by a long shot.

The quota system isn't related to percentage of population. It's
ridiculously trying to enforce that all businesses (for example) have
50% women on their board of directors, or 30% black and 30% asian
workers.

Basically it's one of the many idiocies of the "equality" whiners

They have 1/10th the wealth of average whites.  That's not in 'the
past'. They're being murdered by cops today.  That isn't in' the
past' either.
That has bugger all to do with race. There are also lots of rich
black> people as well as lots of poor white people, plus of course
Asians,> Latinos, etc. It's certainly not an excuse for an idiotic
quota system> in employment, education, health system, and so on.
A quota system would only hurt Blacks, as they're barely 15% of the
population and thus many would lose their jobs to Whites and Hispanics
if we were to level the playing field.
For example, over half the well paid unionized employees of Chrysler's
Dodge City truck plant down the road here, are Black.
The quota system isn't related to percentage of population. It's
ridiculously trying to enforce that all businesses (for example) have
50% women on their board of directors, or 30% black and 30% asian workers.
Basically it's one of the many idiocies of the "equality" whiners
becuase they want special treatment for being a particular race, gender,
etc. rather than the simply having the business hire best *person* for
the job regardless of such factors.
Institutional racism exists whether you get that, or not.

Martin Luther King Day and this new one?  Is that enough?  Would
you like more?  How about 365 days of racially-based,
pandering-to-black uselessness and self-victimization holidays?
https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/black-lives-matter-protests-06-19-2020/h_66251eb718a16461aeaea7eb3aa0b234
What about the Asian holidays?? And the Pacific Island holidays??
And the Latino holidays?? And the 'Native American' holidays?? You
*must* include all of those too, but you will have room since you'll
have to remove all the "white man's" holidays due to them now being
illegal. :-\
Sure... just as soon as we kidnap them, stick them on a boat, enslave
them and use them as breeding stock to make money for us.
Then the comparison will be valid.  Juneteenth would be a celebration
recognizing the righting of the wrongs we carried out for centuries.
Almost all of them wouldn't last a week without their mobile phones
for a start.
They have 1/10th the wealth of average whites.  That's not in 'the past'.
In fairness they would have more than that but it's their fault for
amassing so much wealth in Tulsa and getting slaughtered wholesale for
it. "Your Name" needs to be ass raped with a pitchfork so he can
experience what that kind of treatment is like.

No it's more like my father kicked yours in the balls (or vice versa)
so what do you think I owe you now for something that you have no

Sorry but you've chosen a particularly offensive metaphor and anybody

If he had comprehended what I actually wrote, it would be more like
your great-grandfather being kicked in the balls for a week, so you
won't get testicular cancer. Yes, extremely "unpleasant" for your
great-grandfather, but a major benefit for you *today*. Are you going
to whine abour your long-dead great-grandfather's problems in the past,
or are you going to live a happier life *now*?

Those with loud-mouths and nothing better to do will whine on about the
past. Those with actual brains will take their luckier lives with
gratitude ... they could have been living on tribal Africa being
infected with ebola instead.

Offensive? That was mild compared to what they actually did to the slaves.

"I was severely punished by a board cut full of holes to raise the
blisters, then I was whipped with a strap to burst the blisters, which
were then salted and peppered,” Thomas Brown said. "This burned me very
badly."

"Then, her master tied her across a barrel and whipped her until she
died,” said Luper, the South Carolina slave who ended up in Texas. “The
master’s girls begged for Klora, but it did no good. He then whipped the
boy until he died. The white boy’s mother cried and begged for her son’s
life, but it did no good."

"Many executions in the south were done by hanging. If the whites wanted
to make it more grisly, they would hang the person alive with a hook dug
into one of his lungs. They may also decide to hang the slave upside
down. Moreover, in what the slave masters call very serious offenses,
which they feel exceeded all other forms of punishment the slave had to
be dispensed and usually in a horrifically painful and inhumane way.
They burn the slaves alive, usually bound on a stake."

Yeah... but *I'm* offensive.

It's impossible to overestimate the inhumanity with which the slaves
were treated. But the casual indifference to human suffering and death
remains alive and well as we see here and as we see across America in
response to the pandemic. I'm not sure why this level of cruelty and
disrespect still exists, but it does.

Martin Luther King Day and this new one?  Is that enough?  Would you
like more?  How about 365 days of racially-based, pandering-to-black
uselessness and self-victimization holidays?

What about the Asian holidays?? And the Pacific Island holidays?? And
the Latino holidays?? And the 'Native American' holidays?? You *must*
include all of those too, but you will have room since you'll have to
remove all the "white man's" holidays due to them now being illegal. :-\
Sure... just as soon as we kidnap them, stick them on a boat, enslave
them and use them as breeding stock to make money for us.
Then the comparison will be valid.  Juneteenth would be a celebration
recognizing the righting of the wrongs we carried out for centuries.
That was IN THE PAST.
The last lynching was in 1981. My son was born that year. The Roberts
recently gutted the Voting Rights Act, and paved the way to suppress the
black vote TODAY.

Suppression of the black vote happened last month in Georgia - and
Kentucky is closing 95% of their polling places.

I was in my teens when they beat blacks on the Edmund Pettus bridge in
Selma, and sicced dogs on them in Birmingham.

Martin Luther King Day and this new one?  Is that enough?  Would you
like more?  How about 365 days of racially-based, pandering-to-black
uselessness and self-victimization holidays?
https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/black-lives-matter-protests-06-19-2020/h_66251eb718a16461aeaea7eb3aa0b234
What about the Asian holidays?? And the Pacific Island holidays?? And
the Latino holidays?? And the 'Native American' holidays?? You *must*
include all of those too, but you will have room since you'll have to
remove all the "white man's" holidays due to them now being illegal. :-\
Sure... just as soon as we kidnap them, stick them on a boat, enslave
them and use them as breeding stock to make money for us.
Then the comparison will be valid.  Juneteenth would be a celebration
recognizing the righting of the wrongs we carried out for centuries.
That was IN THE PAST.
Most black people today aren't suffering (except perhaps by their own
sheer laziness, but that's not unique to black people). In fact they are
far better off because their ancestors were brought to America, England,
etc. rather than being left in third-world African countries where they
likely would be truely suffering things like famines, genocidal warfare,
ebola, etc.
These morons who whine on about how bad their lives are because of the
past and because the "white man" came and stole everything need to think
about what they do have. If they're that "angry", then they should be
shipped off to a desert island somewhere without access to any modern
assistance and live the same way their ancestors did. Almost all of them
wouldn't last a week without their mobile phones for a start.
Very astute. Certainly there is no analogy to white people and starting
their own country whilst whining about oppression from British tyrants
and the monarchy and shit, right? Since the whites were collectively
far better at being complete and utter assholes and enslaving and/or
killing people it's the blacks' fault for not being assholish enough and
inventing weapons and indentured servitude and shit. No, if you're a
fucking racist shitbird the whites are never to blame.

Jeeze... Thanny is 'angry' because he has to wear a mask. What Island
are we shipping him off to? The POTUS is 'angry' when somebody can do
math... any ideas when he might be shipped off?

Fuck, people are 'angry' enough to call the cops when they have to leash

would make people a little miffed too... but noooooooo... that's too
much for us to imagine.

Except that WE didn't. My American ancestors came to upstate New York
indentured for their first 3-4 years while paying off their passage
and none of them ever went near anywhere the slave trade ever took
place. (I have said on numerous occasions that while being Canadian I
have many more US relatives past and present than Canadian)

While I know some white people did benefit from the slave trade it
wasn't by any means the majority or even close - and since I have no
family members who ever lived anywhere near the slave states I'm NOT
going to "wear" this one. Yes I'm aware there was some slavery around
NYC but never in the portion of the state my forbears lived. (They
were part of the Renssalaer County settlement)

Of course not. If FPP wants to feel overwhelming for the existence of
19th century slaveholders, just let him. There's no need to talk him out
of his guilt.

My ancestors were living in a shithole country at the time.

No, no, and fuck no! American wealth was BUILT by slaves... sorry, but
we all benefited in this country, whether you know it, or not.

"Of the many myths told about American slavery, one of the biggest is
that it was an archaic practice that only enriched a small number of men."

"The bodies of the enslaved served as America’s largest financial asset,
and they were forced to maintain America’s most exported commodity. In
60 years, from 1801 to 1862, the amount of cotton picked daily by an
enslaved person increased 400 percent. The profits from cotton propelled
the US into a position as one of the leading economies in the world, and
made the South its most prosperous region.

The ownership of enslaved people increased wealth for Southern planters
so much that by the dawn of the Civil War, the Mississippi River Valley
had more millionaires per capita than any other region."

https://www.vox.com/identities/2019/8/16/20806069/slavery-economy-capitalism-violence-cotton-edward-baptist

Jeeze, I can't believe people don't know their history... but, then that
would explain a lot!

"And yet that period is when you see the US go from being a colonial,
primarily agricultural economy to being the second biggest industrial
power in the world — and well on its way to becoming the largest
industrial power in the world."

If you're American (which you're not), then you owe a lot to slavery.
Your Personal Mileage May Vary.

A bit of advice McFelcher, instead of making Breitbart bullshit blanket
statements why not take a crowbar to your brain and see if you can
produce excerpts from the article that shows such bias. That will make
you look even more like an asshole than you do now.

Hint: this is a game of chicken and you've already lost.

Race-based holidays for blacks just further (in the minds of whites, Asians) separate blacks from the successful members of society, further reinforcing the idea they are like retarded children, unable to fend for themselves, requiring care and management by the STATE to exist.
