Honestly, I think it's the best CW superhero show yet.

Yes, that makes it the tallest munchkin in Oz.

But based on the first episode, I'd say it's promising.

Her archenemy, her "Joker" is "Alice", which makes me wonder if the
Hatter will show up. It seems a little unfair for the mayor to
characterize Batman as having "abandoned" them. Why aren't they
assuming that he's dead? It's not a low risk occupation. The "It'll be
perfect when it fits a woman" is still an irritating line but but more
tolerable as part of an entire episode. At the moment she's being
mistaken for Batman. I wonder whether she'll get the red wig next
episode or they'll hold off for a while. At the moment it seems more
useful for the city to not know she's a wannabe.

Hope. Although some obviously do think he's dead. Did they give an
explanation for where Bruce went?

No. But from the way Lucius' son was acting, he, at least, clearly
thinks Bruce just "left" and will be coming back...

I'd say he can actually contact him if need be. He was pretty twitchy.

Both Stupidgirl and Da Flash were better when they were better. Hell, so was
Legends.

No. Both Batman and Bruce Wayne mysteriously vanished 3 years ago. No one -
NO ONE - in Gotham, not even his crack security investigative team relatives
- have connected those dots. NO ONE.

She was mistaken for Batman for like 3 microseconds, until they got a look at
her.

I don't agree. Supergirl was dumb as hell from the start. She needs a
cape to turn? Really? I also had issues with the Flash's toiletless
illegal prison. Of course one thing we've haven't seen Batwoman do yet
is fight a man and that's going to be a big issue in whether this show
works.

I just watched the season premiere of STUPIDGIRL.

(1) Kara/Stupidgirl has been hitting the buffet a little too much over
the summer. She's starting to get lunchlady arms. Benoist's hotness was
all this show ever had going for it. She better be careful not to ruin
that.

(2) Lena sells CatCo to some tech entrepreneur like Elon Musk-- except
she's woman (of course). This idiot immediately boots Jimmy Olson from
the top spot, takes over, and turns the paper into a clone of Gawker or
Buzzfeed. Then she tells anyone who doesn't like it that they're free to
quit but that as part of the takeover, she has imposed brand new
employment contracts on them all which come with a non-compete clause
that lasts in perpetuity, so if they do quit, then can never be
journalists ever again.

Say what the fuck now?

You can't just impose a contract on someone. A contract by definition
has to be agreed to. None of these people agreed to it, so there's no
contract. Even assuming there was a contract, non-compete clauses are
illegal and therefore unenforceable in some states, like California. In
the states where they're allowed, they have to be reasonable and "it
lasts forever" is de facto and de jure unreasonable.

This level of writing and plotting is so idiotic, it's unsnarkable.

And don't even get me started on that insipid "Brainy" guy. What a
fucking trainwreck that character is.

I haven't been watching the show in a few years but I do have the
episodes recorded. Though I did check out that crossover episode and
will do the same again when the various series crossover again.

It's painful. It starts out with 5 minutes of lecturing about social justice,
and how Kara took down the President, and how that should have made voter
registration go UP, but instead it's going down. What exactly is happening,
people are unregistering to vote? "Take me off the rolls!" In the middle of
this they interject "Aw, bi-racial lesbian couples are so CUTE!" No. Really.
They did. None of it advances the plot or is entertaining in any way.

I may have injured my eyes from rolling them when they started to lecture
us about how the (liberal) media makes us better informed voters. @@

Oh yeah, you forgot to mention them grousing about some new AR contact
lenses were making everyone behave like zombies. Gee, I hope nothing

Well, as anim pointed out if these are the rules of this universe, then
it essentially allows for any employer to randomly enslave anyone they
like. We've seen no evidence up to this point that their USA differs
that radically from our own.

What you said. All of it. This was a remarkably stupid outing.

I like Julie Gonzalo, but not here. Not at all.

Somebody steals Baby Kal-El's rocket from a museum (?) and flies away
with it. Supergirl just squints and stares at the hole in the window
left behind by the perp. Then, later, Midnight attacks a theater and
they're got two? three? people there who can fly after her, but instead
they all just stare at the hole she left in the ceiling instead of
heading off in pursuit.

The costume-change weirdness took forever.

They made Lena evil for no damn reason whatsoever.

I'm tired of this bullshit. Really tired. They're not even trying.

The costume-change weirdness took forever.
They made Lena evil for no damn reason whatsoever.
I don't know if you watched (The Adventures of) MERLIN, but they turned Lena
into Morgana, right down to the illogical motivation. (S)HE BETRAYED ME!!
Well, no, Katie, (s)he really didn't. In either case.
I'm tired of this bullshit. Really tired. They're not even trying.
I think they are. I think this is the best they're capable of.

Honestly, I think it's the best CW superhero show yet.
Both Stupidgirl and Da Flash were better when they were better.
What you said. All of it. This was a remarkably stupid outing.
I like Julie Gonzalo, but not here. Not at all.

She's getting jowly. At 31! And those bangs are doing her no flavors.
She says "this is Melissa Benoist" before announcements and definitely rhymes
it with 'moist'

And she does this in the afternoon before Kara's Pulitzer Prize ceremony
(which they amazingly manage to pronounce "Pew-litzer" "Poo-litzer" and
"Puh-litzer" all in the same hour). Gee, think any of these people might take
the opportunity to gripe on camera?

And why does Kara care, anyway? She's at various times wanted to work for
Cat, who's long gone, with Toyman Junior, who's not only long gone but memory
holed, with Lena, who's now gone, and James came to work with her, but now
HE'S gone. She has a more demanding second full time job. She doesn't need
the money. Wouldn't the awards be a perfect time to out the bitch let her
fire you can blackball you? Hell, she should have moved to Metropolis by now
anyway.

And that scene right there is why I haven't snarked it yet. I'm still staring
slack jawed like I was at the premiere of Springtime for Hitler.

Let's recap.

She bought the paper (or whatever the Hell it is). You all now have 3 year
contracts. You can quit or be fired at any time. But if you quit, there's a
permanent non-compete clause.

Blink. Blink, blink.

So unless there are some nuances in there she skipped over, they don't have
contracts at all, except where it comes to the non-compete clause, which
would be illegal, even if they *had* agreed to it.

Not only that, but she demoted James Olsen from Editor to photographer, and
THEN hit him with the contract on his NEW JOB. Bloody Hell, if you can do
that, you can draft people off the street!

Now, I realize that the writers are dumber than stumps, and that since they
moved to Kanadia, they're dumber than maple stumps. I realize they know
nothing of physics or most real world stuff. But you'd think they'd know
*something* about contracts! Do they actually believe Berlanti could do this
to them at any moment? Granted, I hope he *does* so they'll never work again.

That was another bit of complete nonsense. The non-compete outlived the
contract. The contract was for three years but the non-compete was
forever. She told Olson that if he quit, he could never work in the
business again.

she's woman (of course).
I don't recall if I watched that long, but I thought it was for three years.
The contracts are for 3 years. If they quit during that time, they can't ever
work in the business for anyone ever again.

This level of writing and plotting is so idiotic, it's unsnarkable.
And don't even get me started on that insipid "Brainy" guy. What a
fucking trainwreck that character is.
Consider yourself lucky; he was worse last season.

Hope. Although some obviously do think he's dead. Did they give an
explanation for where Bruce went?
No, but the comic continuity suggests that he's suffering from a broken back.
He can probably walk that off. :-D

assuming that he's dead? It's not a low risk occupation. The "It'll be
perfect when it fits a woman" is still an irritating line but but more
tolerable as part of an entire episode. At the moment she's being
mistaken for Batman. I wonder whether she'll get the red wig next
episode or they'll hold off for a while. At the moment it seems more
useful for the city to not know she's a wannabe.
At least we're past the stage where we have scenes like in one Batman
comic I remember from my teens where Batgirl is working with Batman,
Batman is duking it out with the bad guy where just at the right
moment Batgirl "accidentally" rips her tights, shows off a bit of bare
thigh, bad guy is distracted enough that Batman lays him out with a
fist squarely to the jaw.

"if it weren't for the shapely thighs the bad guy would have won" -
yeah that's a great plot element!

It needs work but wasn't horrible.

Not surprising to me just who Alice was as that seemed obvious given
her hate for Dad. Though how she became Alice and why she thinks Kate
would want to rule Gotham beside her is going to take some
explanation. (Saying that she's crazy isn't good enough given that she
hasn't seen Kate since she was a kid.)

Without a body it's a bit presumptive to assume he's dead even if he's
in a tough occupation.

That was the worst line to me. The rest of the lesbian romance (even
with the twist at the end with her ex-lover) didn't seem off to me
unlike that line. She hadn't earned the right to the suit so she
certainly hadn't earned the right to make a dig at Batman's legacy
which is the only way to read that.

Can't imagine it would stay much of a secret for long with or without
the wig. All it takes is one person that she saves to spill the beans
or even one of the criminals to help demystify the Batman mystique.

I think she's a cult leader. I seem to remember something about a
"crime bible".

I think I could break through 3/4 inches of ice with my foot pretty easily. The legs can deliver much more powerful hits than the hands, even with handcuffs used as brass knuckles.

But you have nothing to brace yourself against.

Stop that Johnston, let Rich think he's Batwoman if he wants to.
