been chasing climbed a tree. They shot at the bear in the tree and it
fell out of the tree, landing on top one of the hunters. Although rushed
to hospital, the man who'd had the bear land on him died of his injuries.

Years ago, I heard a joke whose punch line was "Sometimes you get the
bear but sometimes the bear gets YOU." I guess both are true in this
case....
No disrespect to the family of the victim who was, apparently, a very
nice guy.
Not nice enough that he wasn't out shooting bears for no reason. I don't
have a problem with hunting for food, but hunting for fun when the result
is a bear dying for their amusement is repulsive.
There are all kinds of weird rules
You can hunt bears from 4 AM to 10 PM during Bear hound training season
You can?t cripple a bear in a tree
You can only ?harvest? one bear per license per season
You can only use specific firearms
You can?t hunt or kill a bear on Sundays with the aid of dogs

The bear was up a tree, not threatening those Fearless, Brave
Hunters. Shooting the poor bear who was not a threat (regardless
of the complexity of the local laws) was a cravenly cowardly
thing to do.
And why were the hunters standing under the tree? Did they
think they were going to catch it as it fell?
According to the man's widow, he was trying to get his dog back from the
tree, presumably so the bear wouldn't fall on the dog. (I'm picturing
the dog at the base of the tree baying at the bear.) If that's what
happened I can feel some sympathy for the man for that part of the event.
We had a situation outside Toronto several years ago where a man, his
son, and the family dog were walking along a river bank during the
spring thaw/runoff and the dog apparently stepped into the water. He got
into some trouble there and the son, worried about the dog, went into
the water to rescue him. The son also got in trouble before he'd rescued
the dog so the father went in after the son. The son and the father both
drowned. Meanwhile, the dog got out of trouble on his own somehow and
survived the incident. The humans were actually noble in that situation
but it cost them everything, making the whole thing a tragedy.
