Post by UbiquitousWhat did you watchj?
Yesterday, I did errands, and continued grading my first of two final
exams. So I mostly watched soaps, and a disappointing Canadian flick off
Tubi:
soaps: Y&R - Fri's ep. Filis[sic!] is (very righteously) outraged that
Lauren ratted out Filis' doubts about Sharon running her off the road to
Michael (and Sharon) and washes her hands of both of them. When Filis
reaches out to Billy, he sort of rebuffs her, but Sally cancels their
date so Billy can go be a friend to Filis. Meanwhile, Nate drags Audra
along to a celebratory dinner with Davon, Abby and Lily, and a actually
gets choked up about it. The problem with this show is almost everybody
on it is an asshole - Davon is as big an asshole as people like Victor,
as he actually believed that Audra was faking it.
GH - Tue's ep. As her lawyer, Ric advises Lizzie to stay away from
GH (his reasoning is solid). Anna asks Jason to take the lead on finding
Charlotte, so she can concentrate on who killed Dex. Martin reports to
Laura that Anna and Jason kidnapped and interrogated him! NuNuLulu runs
across Brook Lynn, and they argue just like the old days. Brook Lynn
tells Maxie that she's worried that she can't get pregnant as she and
Chase have been trying for months. Tracy once again treats Sasha like
the hired help, and this time Sasha snaps - it turns out it's the
anniversary of Sasha's baby's death. Sasha discusses this with Sonny;
later, Tracy finds Sasha to apologize, and Sasha lays down the law with
Tracy. At the end, Carlo Rota is back! and he overhears Sasha admit that
she is pregnant. (Is he going to kidnap Sasha again!)
DOOL - Tue's ep. Who didn't see this coming?! (Answer: No one!
Everyone saw this coming!!!) The judge forces Xander and NuPhilip to run
Titan together... Meanwhile, dumb Stephanie overhears the wrong thing,
and now thinks Alex and Joy slept together, and goes running to
NuPhilip. Chanel worries about Joy's (faux!) "relationship" with Alex -
Joy tried to end their "friendship", but is rebuffed!
The Devil Within (2020/2021) (Tubi) - While this is what Tubi and IMDb
call this flick, it is also known as "The Corruption of Divine
Providence" which seems like a more accurate title considering the
subject matter.
While Tubi bills this as "horror", one of the IMDb user reviews
correctly states "This is not a horror movie - under any definition of
horror. It's a supernatural thriller and drama..." Of course, this
review is also the only positive IMDb review of this film, so this may
be the only thing this reviewer got right!
I watched this because it supposedly stars Ali Skovbye (and Elyse
Levesque), but Skovbye, despite playing the "possessed one", isn't in
this nearly as much as her parents (Levesque and David Richard La Haye).
But this isn't really a "possession movie" - it's more of a
religion/theology movie. It's also very, very Canadian (this is not a
compliment!) - first it's set in deepest, darkest Manitoba; second, it's
set in a combined Métis/native community. So we get a whole bunch of
Catholic vs. native (pagan) stuff. And, because it's Canadian, this
community is wretched poor and hopeless and pathetic.
Meh.
I think the one positive review on IMDb did get what the
filmmaker(s) were trying to accomplish. But I don't think the film
managed to get anywhere near to achieving its objectives.
And I have no idea what the point of the ending, and fate of
Skovbye's character, was trying to say.
In other news, IMDb is being slow and "glitchy" lately... :|
