Post by moviePigPost by RhinoWhy don't you ASK THEM FIRST if they feel offended by whatever remark
you heard before sticking your nose into their affairs and scolding the
person who said it? You might very well be astonished to find that they
were not offended at all!
Do you say "kike" or "nigger"? You don't? So whom did *you* ASK FIRST?
I did once use the word "niggardly" when trolling a newly re-elected
School Board member who knew I had voted for her.
At the post election reception she reacted predictably and the
conversation went something like:
Me: Susan we've known each other for 15+ years right? So you certainly
know WHAT I said and that I would NEVER use that rather nasty word
that sounds something like that.
Her: nodding in agreement but then "but but but"
Me: "Where's the but? I know what I said and you know what I said and
I also know that one of the key values I hope all trustees embrace is
promoting the correct use of the English language - and to use it both
correctly and with creativity - I'm a former math teacher for heavens'
sake!" (she knew that and nodded)
And one thing for sure - I never would have said it if there had been
strangers around who don't know that I sometimes troll for a reaction.
It was a happy occasion and we had glasses of wine (only one) in our
hands and a good time was had by all and NOT because of the grape.
