BLUE BLOODS
“Bad to Worse” S14E13 11/1/24
(Actually it’s S15E03 but by numbering it season 14, CBS (a.k.a. “the
racist eye”) gets to cheat some people out of money
Worst … episode … ever
Note to Ian: the top episode description on IMDb is for a different episode
An episode clearly written by a non-writer who had never seen the show and
perhaps never seen any show or even looked out the window. Credited to Tara
Garvey, a writers assistant with no other credits whatsoever. With only
half a dozen episodes left in the series, she turns in a nothing burger
episode that doesn’t advance the story arcs at all.
Our show begins with Danny and Baez trudging upstairs and Danny complaining
about how two flights of stairs is too much for him to climb. Remember,
this is a guy who chases perps up a dozen flights of stairs every week.
They exchange what somebody mistakenly thinks is clever couple repartée.
Danny complains that they didn’t take the elevator. Nobody explains why
they didn’t take the elevator.
They turn out to be in a storage locker facility where somebody bought a
locker that the renters stopped paying for. They have to explain the entire
concept to Baez because girls am dumb. It turns out there’s only one thing
in the locker, a duffel bag with human remains.
Erin is prosecuting an ex-cop for harassing his neighbor over a fence
dispute. Isn’t this a little below her pay grade? The cop and his lawyer
come in for a meeting having agreed to a plea. After making her do an
exposition dump they say ha ha ha we weren’t going to sign this. We just
wanted to tell the audience that your grandfather is going to testify for
us.
Eddie the idiot and her partner are walking the boardwalk. Two people on
bicycles almost hit them for no apparent reason. The cops decide to blame
the climate justice “clean water fresh air” banner that some Vandal just
harmlessly put up. They order him down and the crowd tells them to leave
him alone because he’s an artist! For putting up third grade level banner?
The crowd cleverly chants what do we want climate Justice when do we want
it now.
Eddie insists that the guy standing on top of a 6 foot fence is going to
break his neck. Her partner tries to grab his foot to save him from
falling. Nico halfheartedly kicks at the cops hand and Eddie starts
screaming THAT’S ASSAULT! Wouldn’t a charge of assaulting a cop be a
little more intimidating? Suddenly, without warning, Nico turns and falls!
It’s half a dozen feet to certain death! But before he can make it halfway
(almost a meter) the cop partner catches him like a baby. They don’t even
crash to the sidewalk or anything. Nico says they can’t arrest him because
he’s donating a kidney in a few days. They arrest him anyway. Apparently
the charge is not letting them pull him down and break his neck.
Baker, dressed in tasteful black, assembles the three musketeers to meet
with Magnum, who is returning from a firefighter funeral. The writer makes
it lighthearted by having everybody complain about bagpipes.
The mayor stupidly went to a different funeral than the firefighter
funeral. The new chief of fire tweets that the mayor is spitting on the
fire department. The mayor tweets back that she’d better keep her mouth
shut since she works for him. She starts tweeting worse stuff back.
And that’s exactly where the storyline should have ended, with the mayor
firing her. But noooooo.
Magnum says to have his detail bring his car back! Where did they take it?
I mean he’s in his office. Surely they park it in that building.
He’s going to make a surprise visit on the mayor!
MAIN TITLES
At the station, people are watching video of Eddie’s partner catching the
vandal, but they aren’t just watching video as if it was something someone
in a crowd had taken. They’re watching what we watched. Multiple angles
edited together. Yes, they’re watching Blue Bloods just like George Burns
would.
Eddie’s partner says they should come up with a little signature dance for
when people watch them complete a task. Even Eddie (who is being a total
bitch for no reason) thinks this is stupid. She says that he should get a
new partner. OMG if Eddie ever suggested even in jest that you should get a
new partner, wouldn’t you take her up on it instantly?
They go to the front of the station to book the vandal, but are told by the
desk sergeant that another cop came and got him and he just surrendered the
guy.
A phone call tells Eddie that the other cop, detective Ray Strickler,
retired three years ago.
Exterior shot. Danny and Baez knock on a door and Danny puts his hand over
the peephole because that would sure make me open the door without
question.
A severely retarded guy with a memory span of about 20 seconds answers the
door and says he’s not supposed to answer the door, but he only did it
because he couldn’t see out the peephole and shuts the door again.
Remember back before the main titles when Magnum specifically said he was
going to the mayor’s office and specifically used the pronoun “he“? Well,
that makes you smarter than the writer because he actually went to see the
new fire department chief who is a she. At this point I had to go to IMDb
and see who the hell she was because she used to be Mira Sorvino and has
had so much work done, I didn’t recognize her.
She’s obnoxious and stupid and incompetent and rude and desperately needs
to lose her job.
She also at no time whatsoever appears on screen with Magnum. The entire
thing is done with the backs of doubles heads standing in.
Erin bursts into her grandfather’s house, screaming at him. He quite
rightly shuts her down and points out they shouldn’t be talking at all and
throws her out.
Eddie and her partner arrive at the home of the cop impersonator. They say
that the captain sent them over so the captain wouldn’t get in trouble
instead of handling this the right way. They just automatically assume the
guy that answers the door is the impersonator skipping that step. It turns
out his daughter needs a kidney and Nico was telling the truth when he said
he was donating it. Eddie says that if they had known this (which they did
and certainly do now) they could have just issued him a desk appearance
ticket and let him go to donate the kidney. So how come the ex-cop didn’t
know that? Eddie refuses to let her partner arrest the guy. And nobody
asks where the missing Nico is.
In the squad room, Baez and Danny find out that the body in the storage
locker was a woman who disappeared four (sometimes they say five) years ago
right after calling 911 to report the retard was after her. Danny has a
report that the retard has done this dozens of times, suddenly, abruptly,
and without warning, the retards mother appears to do an exposition dump
about how the retard is a retard. (Actually she said he got hit by a car
when he was a kid). Then she refuses to answer questions because this only
served introduce her character. I have no idea how she found Danny and Baez
given that the sun literally has a memory of about 14 seconds and they
didn’t leave a card or anything.
Magnum finally has his meeting with the mayor. We never see both of them at
the same time either. The fire chief has her people egging the mayors car
and going on a sick out and refusing to put out fires. She so desperately
needs to lose her job.
Eddie and her partner take a coffee break and discuss how everything she
does is wrong and how he doesn’t want to even respond to calls anymore when
they get an emergency call!
At Strickler‘s house. IAB had come over right after Eddie left and arrested
Strickler and caught Nico hiding in the back room and cut them both loose.
Now Strickler is calling Eddie (I have no idea how he got her phone number)
because Nico showed up (wait he was hiding there) and announced he wasn’t
going to donate the kidney after all and left. Eddie tells Strickler to
text her places Nico might be hiding (I still don’t know how he has her
phone number) and they race off in their police cruiser without having any
idea where they’re going.
Danny and Baez coordinate via phone as they each investigate separate
storage lockers. It seems they tapped into the storage locker renter
registry and found out the retard has storage lockers all over the city
that he hasn’t been paying the rent on. Each storage locker is pristine
and empty inside except for a duffel bag and each bag contains a
decomposing female corpse. Now once you unzipped that and saw what was
inside, wouldn’t you zip it back up until crime scene got there? Danny says
“we’ve got a serial killer“
Family dinner. They talk about kidney transplants. Henry and Erin squabble.
Henry and Magnum squabble. This is Jamie‘s only scene.
Eddie and partner have changed into plain clothes and are asking a bunch of
dirty hippie vandals (one of which says they almost killed Nico, trying to
save him, ha ha) if they’ve seen Nico. They decide to follow one of the
dirty hippie vandals because he’s leaving and why else would he possibly
leave?
Magnum meets with the three musketeers. Baker wears a tasteful gray outfit
with her Starfleet insignia pin. The fire department has stopped working
and half a dozen buildings burned. The public is inexplicably supporting
the fire department. Sources say the mayor is firing the fire chief in the
morning and damn well time. Magnum blames himself. Nobody else in the room
or the audience is sure why.
Danny and Baez have security footage from the various storage locker places
showing the retard stashing the bodies. They have the 911 call naming him
made by one of the victims. They have a stalking conviction. They think
this might be enough to get a search warrant for his house. Seriously?
You’d think this would be enough to get a shoot on sight order. Plus, what
exactly are they looking for at his house? Suddenly, the forensics comes
in. It’s not the retards DNA on the bodies!
Eddie and partner follow the guy they have no reason to suspect. Eddie in
plain clothes forces her way into his apartment and Nico goes out the
window. Nico is walking along grinning like an idiot when the partner grabs
him and roughs him up. How many laws are these two going to break? They
shame Nico into agreeing again to give up a kidney.
Henry is at a diner eating carrot cake (yuck). Anthony shows up trying to
broker peace, but has no luck. Erin has been removed from the case (of
course she has; who didn’t see that coming?).
And what do all these people expect Henry to do anyway. Refuse to testify?
He didn’t volunteer. He’s been called as a witness by the defense. He
can’t exactly say “no”
Back at the retards house, Danny knocks on the front door, which causes it
to swing open (which seems unlikely unless somebody duck taped the latch)
so they go in and search the place guns drawn, talking and finally find the
retards mother at the kitchen sink and of course she didn’t hear them
coming despite her big screen TV being carefully muted. She’s been killing
all the women that were mean to her son. They arrest her and take her away
leaving the house empty for the kid to come home to despite him being the
one who’s been hiding the bodies.
It’s Henry’s day in court! Erin is sitting in the gallery directly behind
her replacement ADA. Who is an idiot. She misses a point where she
should’ve objected, and Erin waves her hands behind her head, and somehow
she hears Erin waving her hands behind her head and realize this means she
should object. She objects.
inexplicably the defense asks Henry what he thinks of the defendant, and
Henry says all sorts of bad stuff about him. This was his plan all along.
so why exactly did the defense call him in the first place?
at the hospital, the kidney surgery went fine. Eddie and her partner took
the day off to wait through it with Strickler. They will both the donor and
recipient out together into a room where people don’t need masks or
anything nor do the patients. Eddie’s partner tells her how great she is
which must’ve happened in a different episode than this one.
Henry and Erin laugh in her office and she says it was worth the surprise
to see the look on the defendants face (which she didn’t). Henry wants
scotch but she says it’s 11 in the morning. That trial must’ve started
early.
Danny and Baez watch through the one-way mirror as the retard continually
asks for his mother. Danny says he can’t explain it to him again because he
forgets it every 10 minutes. How does this guy who only has a memory span
of 10 minutes take duffel bags with bodies to storage lockers all over
town? They decide to hand him over to child protective services even
though he’s 50.
Mira Sorvino shows up to be fired by the mayor. Magnum is already there.
This is the first time we actually see her in a scene with another actor.
She brought 300 firefighters with her to complain noisily outside, although
she denies it.
The mayor joins them. All three of them are actually in the same shot.
Magnum tells her to apologize for the egging and the fires, and she just
smirks and says “no”. Please, dear God, somebody fire her. Magnum tells the
mayor to apologize for basically being an ass. The mayor says no. Mira
just sits there smirking (maybe that’s all her face can do now). Magnum
gives up and leaves.
The end.
