TROI LIED ON HER RESUME, DIDN'T SHE? | DEANNA TROI AND HER EMPATHIC ABILITIES
| Trek Thoughts:

Counselor Deanna Troi, the Enterprise's designated empath who can sense
emotions of those around her... except when she can't. Troi's empathic sense
could have been an interesting plot device if it was used properly: however,
it rarely is and is mainly used for her to state the obvious and be vague...
One might suspect she fudged her resume a bit.

And, of course, this is all in good fun to point out some of the flaws of a
TV show I love. I like Troi, and this video isn't intended to be an attack on
Troi actress Marina Sirtis. I just wish Troi was written to her full
potential.

FEMINIST JUSTIN TRUDEAU HAS HIS PANTIES IN A BUNCH OVER TRUMP:
Justin Trudeau accuses Americans of denying women the opportunity to be
president. He thinks you should vote for someone because they're a woman. And
he's here to declare he's a proud feminist.

UNIDENTIFIED FLYING TERROR | THE UNKNOWABLE HORROR OF GERRY ANDERSON'S UFO:
To celebrate the launch of our new UFO collectible at the Official Gerry
Anderson Store, here's a new video celebrating the famous alien spacecraft!

WHAT IN THE WORLD IN "TRANS-BLIND"??:
Dana Loesch reacts to yet another flag to represent how someone identifies
themselves; This time, something we've never seen before. Introducing:
"trans-blind". A flag for people who can't even see it.

What did you watch?
I had to give a final exam review session yesterday afternoon, so not
much...:

soaps: GH - Thur's & Fri's ep's. Thur's ep was mostly set up - the
payoff came at the end: Tracy accidentally exposes the Willow-Drew "sex
video" at the Quartermaine holiday party! While everyone is dumping on
Drew, bitch Willow storms out - helped/egged on by Nina, Willow tries to
get her kids off the Quartermaine's property (smart!), but at the end of
Friday's ep, they are stopped by bitch Carly! (Now Willow is finally
going to see what Nina has always known - that Carly is a total and
complete irredeemable bitch!)... Meanwhile, in a development that really
pisses me off (again!), Dex dies (i.e. is murdered) by heart attack at
GH. (This is really going to mess Josslyn up! - She's now had two
boyfriends die on her! She's cursed!!) And NuNuLulu and Dante talk after
Lulu breaks into Windemere(sp?) looking for clues as to Charlotte's (and
Valentin's) whereabouts.

Love Bomb (Tubi) - This was a weird little flick. Is it horror? Torture
porn? (Not really.) A psychodrama wrapped in a mystery?... Tubi's blurb
for this basically covers this overall: "A mysterious dating app
designed for one-night stands brings three strangers together with
deadly consequences for all those involved." It stars (former?!) porn
star Jessie Andrews (who has no problem with a little naked nudity), and
Zane Holtz and Josh Caras. It's mostly odd, and keeps you kind of
guessing, with an ending that's... well, unexpected, I guess.

I watched:

Sonic the Hedgehog (4K disc) 2020 live action movie based on the popular
video game. Ben Schwartz voices the CGI hedgehog who battles the evil
Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). I'm not at all familiar with the original
video game, but according to the commentary they stuck close to it. I
don't know. I don't care. It was mostly background noise.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (4K disc) 2022 sequel which has the wacky hedgehog
once again battling Dr. Robotnik. This time Robotnik has help from
Knuckles the Echidna (Idris Elba). Even more background noise. I
barely pared attention, but I did look up at the end to notice Jim
Carrey piloting a giant robot, which I guess is from the game.

Super Mario Bros. (4K disc) 1993 live action movie based on the popular
video game. And yes, this is the 1993 version starring Bob Hoskins as
Mario, in 4K. A boutique label studio released this as a really good 4K
set loaded with a ridiculous amount of extras. Multiple commentary
tracks, deleted scenes, featurettes, even the full work print version of
the movie. I *will* be revisiting this multiple times.

But first up I watched with the screen writer commentary. Basically as
he walked through the making of the movie, he said what was already well
known, the movie was written and rewritten on the fly as they made it.
He also said multiple times that this was one of the very first video
game movies and at the time they had no idea how to translate a video
game into a movie. I do *not* buy that! They had the game. All they
had to do was put what was in the game in the movie. How hard is
that?!? The screenwriter said the first version of the script was
supposed to be a lighter more family friendly (and game accurate)
version of the movie. But then they cast Bob Hoskins and significantly
rewrote the script to be darker. But then after they made the movie
Disney decided to make the movie less dark. And the constantly clashing
of no one involved knowing what they wanted didn't help matters. He
said the directors while nice, gave the actors almost no direction at
all. Also well known, but the writer confirmed Hoskins had a horrible
time making this movie. It was like nightmare for him, and he turned to
drinking to cope. He said at one point the producers threw the screen
writer under the bus when they made a change that Dennis Hopper (Koopa)
didn't like and instead of admitting it, they told Hopper he made the
change and Hopper called him into a meeting and yelled at him. He also
questioned what was up with the movies score. He couldn't understand
why they didn't use any of the game's iconic music.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie (4K disc) 2023 New CGI movie based on the
popular video game. Unlike the 1993 live action version, which only
barely resembled the game, this is pretty much the game come to life.
Although when you think about it, the plots of the 1993 live action and
this version aren't that far off. In both versions Mario and Luigi are
plumbers living in New York who get transported to the mushroom kingdom
where they have to stop Koopa and his war machine. It's just the new
version actually follows the game and has all the stuff from the game in
the movie. And it just works. One of the first things I noticed,
probably because they mentioned it on the live action version
commentary, is this version uses the game's iconic music throughout.
And that music really does help set the tone and sale the movie. Seeing
Mario wear the suits from the games put a smile on my face. I've
watched this before, but I think I enjoyed it a little more this time
around.

Secret Level (Amazon streaming) - This is a new animated anthology
series set in different video game worlds. The episodes are short,
about 15 minutes each. I had not originally plan on watching this, but
when I realized the series dropped the other day, I figured now would be
a good time. I binged through several episodes.

"Dungeons & Dragons: The Queen's Cradle" - Episode 1. Mostly background
noise. I really wasn't paying any attention. But it sure did look nice.

"Sifu: It Takes a Life" - I never played this game before. I have no
idea what was going on and didn't pay much attention.

"New World: The Once and Future King" - I never played this game before.
But Arnold Schwarzenegger voiced the King, so I paid attention.
Basically Schwarzenegger plays a spoiled king who shows up on an island
to conquer it, but finds conquering it a *lot* harder than he
anticipated. This one was OK.

"Unreal Tournament: Xan" - Mostly background noise. I really wasn't
paying any attention. But it sure did look nice.

"Warhammer 40,000: And They Shall Know No Fear" - Another game I've
never played. And I have no idea what was going on with this one!

"PAC-MAN: Circle" - The *only* reason I kept going was to make it to the
Pac-Man episode. And this was by far the worst episode! It was
painfully bad and had *nothing* to do with the game. They paid lip
service to the game by referencing eating, mazes, and ghosts, but
visually and storywise, they should be ashamed of themselves. Anyone
considering watching this series to see Pac-Man don't bother.

There are two more episodes already released, but I may or may not
bother to watch them. Although, I probably will resume once the Mega
Man episode drops. I am curious what they do with that.

And yet we must always be thankful to it for giving us Angie Harmon.

I’ve always wondered if the Hoffs story about sitting next to her on an
airplane and hiring her is even remotely true.

Depends on the videos. Youtube has quite a few free movies on the site
now and if you have an ad blocker you can watch them without ads. Not
so sure what their selection is for TV shows but I know you can always
catch some older shows on Youtube (old enough that no one cares to
send out a DMCA notice on them so 1950s/60s.)

So the "nothing worth watching" option.

Have you considered trying for a few audiobooks via

I like to listen to pod casts while I'm on public transportation or
sometimes when I'm out and about downtown. But I usually don't listen
to them when I'm driving.

There's a podcast for every topic under the sun and free.

I think anim already mentioned he likes Inside of You with Michael
Rosenbaum, and it's also a YouTube page so there's the option of just
listening or also watching:

Yaah, their ebook stuff doesn't work either. I found that out the hard
way when a friend bought several gft ebooks for me, but amazon
wouldn't let me claim them. (Luckily she *was* able to get her $$
back.)

One thing I did was to download the list of books that have been
turned into TV shows that Robin posted awhile back and grab
a bunch of those. I got ebooks, not audiobooks, but the idea
is the same. I've already read a few.

Actually, right now I’m fighting to stay because Humana decided it was time
for me to go home, but I can’t even stand up yet. Appeals are being filed.

I got occupational therapy to let me do some simple weights using just my
arms. And physical therapy took me to the gym and a wheelchair and had me
work for a while on one of those machines that has pedals and hand grips.

What did you watch?
Hey, thanks for asking!
Nothing
Uh-oh....something go haywire with the iPad and ear buds
already?
Or was there simply nothing on that was worth the bit-flow?
Nyssa, who is finding that the "nothing on worth watching"
is the the more likely scenario for her
I can?t get anything current and I?ve been sleeping a lot. I didn?t
think it was worth reporting that I watched a couple YouTube on videos
or something.
So the "nothing worth watching" option.
Have you considered trying for a few audiobooks via
the ipad or iphone? I isn't flashing pictures on the
screen, but at least it might offer some measure of
entertainment better than nothing.
Just an idea.
I actually just joined audible and put book suggestions on my Amazon wish
list. As it turns out the system doesn?t work and people can?t actually
send me anything.

An elliptical?

Have you tried using the Kindle app? With that you can set up an email
address and send ebooks to that address which will then be
automatically added to your list of books on the Kindle. Those can be
books you've bought (or others bought) on Amazon or DRM free ebooks
from anywhere. I tested it some time back and it works well enough.

The special email address comes with each Kindle shipped. It really
isn't much good at all. I found the only way it would work was to
go to the amazon website and access the Kindle-specific email, then
download it via the website to my computer, then transfer the book to
whichever Kindle it was DRMed for. If I wanted it on one of my other
Kindles, I'd have to repeat the process for each Kindle. I haven't
used that method in years.

Most of the ebooks I get now are non-amazon epubs that I download
and import into Calibre then convert into Kindle friendly formats. I
sideload whichever I ebooks I want into whichever Kindle I happen
to want to use at the moment (usually my big format DX; it's
3G only with no wifi, so sideloading is the only way to get new
items onto it). No DRM problems to deal with either.

The guy who develops Calibre should get a Nobel Prize.

The issue with the friend-purchased gift ebooks was ALL amazon's
piss poor programming that refused to allow me to access the
gifted ebooks at all even via their website. Probably similar
to the problem anim is having with amazon's Audible.

Shawn, read what I wrote more carefully. I already own three Kindle
eink ereaders (first one purchased in 2012) plus a Kindle Fire tablet
I bought for reading Kindle books heavy with illustrations/color images
(such as history or other non-fiction books with lots of charts, graphs,
and photographs).

Each of those Kindles came with its own, linked Kindle email address. I do
not need another one. Nor do I need a Kindle app.

LOL. I wasn't suggesting you get one (unless you really need a few
hundred email addresses.) I was addressing the issue for Fred as he
might have read your response as suggesting you needed to own a Kindle
to get the email address. I was just making it clear that if you did
not have a Kindle but did have the application you could still get the
email address and use it to put ebooks into your Kindle app.

And I'm talking about ebooks too, not audiobooks. I thought he might
enjoy having ebooks to read since the audiobooks aren't working for
him. Unfortunately it looks like the noise surrounding him is a bit
much and interferes with his enjoyment while reading.

screen, but at least it might offer some measure of
entertainment better than nothing.
Just an idea.
I actually just joined audible and put book suggestions on my Amazon
wish list. As it turns out the system doesn?t work and people can?t
actually send me anything.
Yaah, their ebook stuff doesn't work either. I found that out the hard
way when a friend bought several gft ebooks for me, but amazon
wouldn't let me claim them. (Luckily she *was* able to get her $$
back.)
You can download the Kindle app and get a special email address. No
need to buy a Kindle to get the email address. Though I'm sure they
would provide one to anyone buying a Kindle.

Yes, that works but I figured with Anim's current situation talking
about using Calibre wouldn't help him.
Apples and oranges. I'm talking ebooks, he's talking audiobooks
from amazon's Audible store. Calibre only does ebook formats.
And I'm talking about ebooks too, not audiobooks. I thought he might
enjoy having ebooks to read since the audiobooks aren't working for
him. Unfortunately it looks like the noise surrounding him is a bit
much and interferes with his enjoyment while reading.
You mean where he has to scream into the phone to make himself heard over
the full volume TV?

Yikes, that really is over-doing it.

Can't someone on the staff convince him to turn it down
to a more reasonable level? (Or, if necessary, pull the plug
on it?)

After all, that place is maant for people who are injured or
sick to get better...and get rest too.

He transferred to hospice while I was here, but it looks like he’s staying
in the same bed just different treatment.

One thing I did was to download the list of books that have been
turned into TV shows that Robin posted awhile back and grab
a bunch of those. I got ebooks, not audiobooks, but the idea
is the same. I've already read a few.

Ditto
I got an unplanned tour of the mountains on Interstate 81 thanks
to one of those audiobooks. :/
Nyssa. who hopes thay anim is making progress on getting better
so he can get back home and not have to deal with bad food or
worse roommates
Actually, right now I’m fighting to stay because Humana decided it was time
for me to go home, but I can’t even stand up yet. Appeals are being filed.
I got occupational therapy to let me do some simple weights using just my
arms. And physical therapy took me to the gym and a wheelchair and had me
work for a while on one of those machines that has pedals and hand grips.
An elliptical?
Similar to an elliptical. I used one like that during PT after my stroke.
