Prime Minister Trudeau has banned an additional 300 models of guns, over
and above the 1500 that he banned four years ago. The only people
impacted by this will be legal gun owners, who have represented 3% of
all gun criminals for the past THIRTY years: the remaining gun crimes
were performed by people who obtained their guns illegally via people
smuggling them over the border.

[5 minutes]

Trudeau is apparently shoring up support from his "progressive" base in
Toronto and Montreal.

Trudeau has ALWAYS taken the attitude that 'please Toronto and
Montreal and to hell with everybody else' - this is hardly news. The
whole careers of Preston Manning and Stephen Harper were based on
that. And when was there an Alberta premier of any party who DIDN'T
engage in Ottawa-bashing?

The thing that was new to me was the statistic that for the last 30
years, the guns involved in crimes were only legally owned guns in 3% of
the cases. I had no idea the number was so small or that the number was
so consistent.

Trudeau going after legal gun owners yet again is of only the slightest
benefit to reducing gun crime. At most, it would reduce gun crime by
legal gun owners to zero when it's already minimal while doing NOTHING
whatever to discourage the kind of gang-related shootings that are now
routine in this country. And I don't just mean in Toronto or Montreal.
The shooting is getting routine even in the lesser cities in or beyond
the GTA. I expect it's the same in BC.

If anything, the drug situation (particularly fentanyl which is
primarily made from Chinese made components exported to the Mexican
gangs and manufactured there) is considerably worse in BC than in the
Greater Toronto Area.

From what I hear the shooting situation in BC is primarily about
"disagreements" between the various drug gangs. Certainly the last
time I heard about a firearm murder in Vancouver it was about some
poor guy who was crossing the street when members of the drug gangs
had a "disagreement".

Most of this is in the Surrey area (which is Vancouver's largest
suburb with a population of 500-600k) which I don't pay much attention
to as it's the opposite side of the city from me.

It's too bad the NDP got re-elected: a new Conservative government
*might* have taken meaningful steps to stop that nonsense in BC,
although it might not have been able to do much given Trudeau's efforts
to push the "safer supply" baloney.

If there's any sense left in this country, Trudeau will be gone soon.
Then maybe we can start to repair all the damage he's done, including
taking meaningful steps to block guns coming up from the US, undoing
some of the more senseless gun laws, and ending the enabling of public
drug use. Increasing our defence spending to meet the NATO floor of 2%,
dramatically downsizing the civil service, whittling the deficit down,
ending DEI, privatizing the CBC, making friends with Israel again, and a
host of other things are going to be on that list too.

I don't know if Poilievre will have the balls to do everything that
needs doing but I think his heart is in the right place. He's got to be
better than Trudeau who really, truly needs to go back to the only job
he's qualified to do: snowboard instructor.

I confess to finding it odd that the 'solution' to druggies endlessly
taking poisoned drugs (that's what fentanyl is after all) is to give
them drugs manufactured in a government lab at yours and my expense.

They've even had a pharmaceutical plan where addicts get "safe" drugs
from a state dispensary and rather than being required to take them on
the spot get to take them home from the dispensary.

And surprise surprise guess what is getting sold by pushers.....

Shhhh - that requires major downhills - which there are few of in the
Toronto - Montreal - Ottawa area. There ARE a lot of that kind of hill
in my end of the country though few people here would be eager to have
him.
