Dr. Brown has several times stated that the romance between Ephram (age
16) and Madison (age 20) is "illegal". Is this even close to being
true. Four years, even at that age, doesn't seem like *that* much. Now
a 14 year old and an 18 year old would be bad. But while I don't see
Ephram as being mature enough for Madison I still can't see it being
illegal. I do find it a bit unrealistic, though, at least on Madison's
part. Not because of the age difference so much as it simply seems out
of character.

So...?

It depends on what they do on a date. I'm not a lawyer and don't know
Colorado Law but generally statutory rape is "gender blind".

Technically the age of consent is seventeen in Colorado, but in practice
it's not illegal for a sixteen year-old to have consensual sex with someone
who is less than ten years older. It's a weird (and recent) law but there
it is.

I can understand Ephram lusting after Madison, but she lusting
after a little 16 year old??? Some 16 year old boys and girls look
much older than their age, but Ephram looks way to young for her. I guess
that the old soul in Ephram as well as his musical virtuosity
must trump his little kid appearance in Madison's eyes.

Ephram seems a little wiser than his sixteen years, but there's no doubt
that his talent and his hotness (supposedly) are big factors. Madison even
said something to the effect that she saw him differently the first time
she heard him play the piano.

Frankly I don't really see the big deal about any of it, and within
certain obvious limits, I don't see the big deal about age differences in
general.

In any case, were I Ephram I'd just sit back and enjoy the ride, and not
spend too much time on the whats and wherefores of Madison's attraction.

Everwood takes place where? Colorado? This guide:
http://www.ageofconsent.com/ageofconsent.htm says that the age of
consent is 15/17 in Colorado (details:
http://www.ageofconsent.com/colorado.htm) -- to wit "Any actor who
knowingly subjects another not his or her spouse to any sexual contact
commits sexual assault on a child if the victim is less than fifteen
years of age and the actor is at least four years older than the
victim."

So it looks like she's safe.

But Madison is 20 and we don't know whether Ephram has turned 16 yet, do we?

It was said in the show that Ephram was 16.
As well as a couple of episodes about Ephram getting his license
(Madison helped him pass his driver's test) and a car.
